Jessa and Ben on Adoption

In a recent interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Jessa and Ben Seewald revealed that they hope to adopt "a lot of kids."

"If God blesses us with biological kids of our own, it's not going to quench our desire to adopt," said Jessa.

Have Jessa and Ben started the adoption process? They couple says they are still doing research.

The Seewalds also discussed how they handle arguments, telling PEOPLE that they try not to raise their voices to each other.

"If we have a hard time and we talk about it, you just love each other so much more afterwards," Jessa shared. "After a disagreement, I often feel, 'I have never loved you more than I love you now.'"

To hear more about Jessa and Ben's life as newlyweds, watch the following video. Mr. and Mrs. Seewald are also on the front cover of this week's edition of PEOPLE, available wherever magazines are sold.

  1. I think it is wonderful that you plan to adopt children. They will be raised in a very loving, Christian family. So many children are out there that need exactly what you have to share, love, family and most of all the teachings of God.

  5. Yeah! That's so cool! I've always wanted to adopt too. It's nice to see a couple having such goals.

  6. I don't see a video linked... Does anyone else have this problem?

I am so happy they want to adopt!! I hope all of the Duggars adopt. There is such a great need. :)

  7. I believe that Ben and Jessa would be a blessing to any child they have no matter how he or she comes to them. It is heartwarming that they want to bring a child with no family into such a large and loving family. Best wishes to you both.

  8. I have a couple of cousins who had infertility issues and would like to adopt. My cousins come from large 10 children family, 26 cousins total, though need to pray for some family members as they do not show the 'fruits of repentance'

    1. Haha! Yes. Is there a problem with that? I appreciate their honesty :-) my husband and I fought frequently during our first 6 months, but we took the time to work thru things and now couldn't be happier. Not everyone has the honeymoon phase first. As the Lord continues to mature them in their faith they'll grow stronger in their marriage.

  12. What's the rush? Enjoy this season of life as newlyweds. You've gone from young adults at home to husband and wife. Give yourself a year to grow as a couple before becoming parents.

  13. Lily and Ellie, do you know what Ben and Jessa do for a living? Is their full time job the TV show? I feel like there is never a clear answer about this, and your blog is always so good about clearing up misinformation. Thank you!

  15. As a person who adopted fairly recently there are not scores of young children waiting in some orphanage becuase their parents have actually died. The wait is long and the couple's in line long for the children actually available for adoption. I can't see a 19 year old adopting a child of 10. There are lots of the kids in feeding centers because it's an efficient way to feed them and somehow that same generosity doesn't extend to their families. Which is a shame since we are supposed to care for the widow and orphan. Surely taking a child from a single spouse isn't caring for the widow. While it's fine to adopt and I'm glad as a married couple they are on the same page about it being an option I would hope they would not adopt to get the larger sized family or for appearance sake.

  16. We have both biological kids (3) and adopted (15). What a blessing it is that the Seewalds want to adopt. There are so many kids in the foster system needing and wanting forever homes. God's Blessings on your family as it grows.

  21. That is really nice to hear, as an adoptive mom of 3. Though the Lord may lead your hearts overseas, do not forget the thousands of children in your own country and state who are in need of a family.

  22. I think that is great!! So many kids need loving home...go for it Ben and Jessa!!! :-)

  23. I predicted it in a previous post, I felt that Jessa and Ben will adopt! I hope they really do, like others have said there is a great amount of babies out there that need a loving safe home! God bless you two and your families!

  25. I can't believe that the Duggars have become not much more than celebrities. After this last year,
kids think that getting married young is awesome and easy. It is easy for the children of millionaires but not for the average homeschool children. Every episode seems so staged
and they are all just acting. I am a very disappointed homeschooling mother of teenagers and
this breaks my heart. The Duggars have lost the reason why the show was created. It is not
encouraging,or a ministry, to watch a 21 and 18 year old get married without having jobs.
What has happened to the value of good, hard work and accomplishment. God commands
    us to work.

  29. I know newly weds often see the world through rose covered glasses. Adoption is not easy process and can be more straining then having a biological child. I know from my parents experience and my own. Enjoy married life and build a strong marriage adopt a bit later. Just my advice :-)

  33. Where are they employed? Will the jessa woman be a stay at home mom or will they use daycare? Does the man travel any in his career? Important things to consider

  34. Do you get paid money to be on the People magazine? Othewise why would they do it? Its not a Christian publication i dont think? It has racy ads photos and articles thati thought they didnt believe in? How much is rent in Arkansas....maybe they had to raise rent money?

  35. I wish their familles would help them out with bills instead of them having to turn to the tabloid type magazines. Maybe they will find jobs soon. Are they near a big city where the chance for good jobs might be better? So hard starting off young married life unemployed.....really feel for them. Bless their hearts for wanting to adopt and help others even as they struggle!

  36. Shame on People magazine for taking advantage of this very young and newly married couple! Why wont the media leave this family alone? Isnt there something they can do....file orders or something? Let them live in peace!

    2. Are you saying they were in this magazine voluntarily? I dont believe that because the Duggars do NOT believe in television, magazines and popular and rock and roll music and been very careful all these years to sheild their family from these influences. All their grown children have MUCH higher standards than supermarket tabloids and the like. Magazines print whatever they want...that doesn't mean poor jesa and her husband agreed to this violation of their private life.

    3. They posed for the pictures and gave the interview. The video showed people photographers in their house. Jill and Dereck's wedding and baby announcement was a people exclusive. The family mentioned doing interviews on previous shows way back when Jennifer was born. They absolutely gave consent and have been featured several times. How is it different from them not believing in TV and having a show on a secular network that also has shows and ads they don't agree with?

  37. It's very nice to wish to adopt ! Ben is so young ! He needs to be able to make enough money to take care of their future kids. Pray for them ! :)

  38. Have they said what kind of adoption they would be interested in? Special needs? International? Inter-racial? Foster care? Sadly, some babies are more "in demand" than others. I find it hard to believe that an agency would prioritize them if they were otherwise young, healthy and able to have their own kids. When my aunt adopted her second child, the agency would not let them adopt a 3rd because they wanted to give other people the opportunity to be parents.

  39. That sounds great, there are so many starving kids out there that need good homes. I think in the Duggar family would be the best home for those poor kids. From the videos I have seen on 19 Kids And Countings show I think Jessa and Ben are the perfect couple and make a great team I know they would be great parents. But if I was going to adopt children I would still want some biological children of my own. Hoping and praying for you Jessa and Ben hope you make the right choice and have a happy family I know you two would love having a lot of children in my opinion you should have biological children I know with the help of God you'll make the right choice.

  40. BRAVO! Jessa and Ben. What a great decision to adopt. There are so many children in the world who need a loving home. Hope the rest of the family follow this decision. What happened to Michelle and Jim Bob's discussion to adopt a child, possibly from China? Will be sure to pick up a copy of Poeple magazine.

  46. I agree with Anonymous 25.
There are so many lessons to be learned in life.
I have a feeling Duggar courtship rules will have been tweaked a bit before the next Duggar daughter or son enters into one. At least I hope so!
    enters into a possible courtship.

  47. I think when Ben and Jessa see all the financial fees associated with adoption, they will change their mind!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I don't think it's anyone's place to tell them to wait to have babies or to say they don't work. From watching the show you can see that Ben does work and jessa is a homemaker. They would be great parents. They both have had plenty of experience and if they want to get started right away that's their business. I can't believe people want to judge this family when they are some of the most loving people I've ever seen.

  50. I would like to ask the Duggars if they would ever purchase People Mag, if their children
were not on or in it? People seems like any other sleezy magazine. I just don't understand
the Duggars anymore and I would never, never buy People Magazine. I don't think that
    any Christian should support this.

  51. My husband has 11 adopted siblings. He loved his large family. We were so excited about adoption but there sure were a lot of hurdles we didn't know about. Even my mother in law said it was way easier to adopt 40 years ago. We passed a home study, as far as the size of our home, our income, and interviews and then because of a genetic condition I had they turned us down. We became CASA volunteers to help kids without a voice in the court system going through family problems. I hope Jessa and Ben get to adopt but I hope they know it is not as easy as just wanting to. They will have to be married longer, have a work history and pay stubs for longer just to start, plus a two bedroom rental house would not pass most home studies.

To anon 46- I think it is a very noble and unselfish act to give a loving home to a child who is without, whether you are considering having biological children as well or not. How is this unnatural?

  56. @Anonymous 44 -- Isn't it great that a person who buys People magazine to read about 50 Shades of Grey will also be exposed to Christianity by the Duggar article in the same magazine?

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Why not make a special point to buy the People issues featuring the Duggars to show the publishers that the public does want to read about wholesome families?

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Anonymous 59 - By your reasoning, they Duggars should not be on TLC at all, because TLC shows many unGodly programs, including one of the worst shows on TV -- the Long Island Medium occult show.
