Joseph Duggar turned 20 yesterday. What is he up to these days? After high school, Joseph attended ALERT Academy in Big Sandy, Texas. It was difficult for the family, especially Michelle, to adjust to him living so far from home.
Now, Joseph is a new student at Crown Bible College in Knoxville, Tennessee. That is 10 hours away from his home in Springdale, Arkansas, but only 30 minutes from where the Bates live in Rocky Top, Tennessee. Joseph is known to rise at 5am and spend an hour reading the Bible and praying before starting his day.

ReplyDeleteHandsome godly young man. Have fun in College!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Joseph!! Crown College is an excellent school.
ReplyDeleteWow Joe hope it all goes great for you. Your parents taught you pretty good...keep it up I know God will bless you greatly:-):-D
ReplyDeleteIs he living with the Bateses?
ReplyDeleteWow, good for him!
ReplyDeleteYou have grown into a fine handsome man,,good luck with your College years.
ReplyDeleteJoe-follow your own convictions, stay the course and all good things will follow
ReplyDeleteHis parents must be so proud of him, what a Blessing this young man is.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for Joseph!! It is so great that he spends time connecting with God each day!! It is my goal to do the same by reading the Bible with Jill & Derick!! Bless you on your journey!!
ReplyDeleteHow do you read the Bible with Jill and Derick? I just saw the video of Jospeh working on Ben and Jessa's house. He's such a cutie with the facial hair. He needs to keep it! If he courts and marries a Bates girl, he will likely move close to them permanently. Imagine their children having 38 aunts and uncles, not counting the ones their siblings are married to...that's a lot of love to go around and the pinkest pinched cheeks on the planet!
DeleteIs Josiah in college too? Don't remember seeing him since he graduated from high school.
ReplyDeleteJosiah went to 3 phases (27 weeks) of ALERT training after high school.
DeleteMay God bless you and keep you safe. Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteWill he be staying with the Bates or on campus?
ReplyDeleteJoseph, you are a fine young man I do enjoy watching the Duggars and I love the Christian life they are living. God Bless everyone!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such great news! I hope that all of his siblings that want to go to college follow suit. Is he living with the Bates family while he attends?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Joseph! It's far from home but so glad you have the Bates' family close by!!
ReplyDeleteHi ladies,
ReplyDeleteWhat is he studying? How long does he still have left to finish his degree?
Thanks,
Alexis
I'm glad to see this, even if it isn't an accredited college, it's a step in the right direction!
ReplyDeleteCriwn has been a candidate for Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) since November 2012, which can last up to 5 years and then will have full accreditation. This information is available on thecrowncollege.com.
DeleteCrown college is a great place!
ReplyDeleteCool, my two cousins went to Crown Bible College too, Joseph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still follow the Lord, and keep trusting Him, to show you the right direction!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are such a neat man of God, and you have a wonderful family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-)
ReplyDeleteCrown is a great school. Our daughter is a Senior there now and our son and daughter-in-law are graduates now in full-time ministry. God bless as continue to serve Him. WVmom
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic news! I am so happy for Joseph. College was one of the most enriching experiences of my life; there was so much to learn, so many people to meet, and so many new ideas to explore. I hope to see the rest of Joseph's siblings follow in his footsteps, especially Jana, Jinger, Josiah and Joy. I think they would all flourish there.
ReplyDeleteGod's blessings as you study and witness at the college for Christ! Be strong, young man!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome. What is he studying? Where is he living?
ReplyDeleteWonder what his major is
ReplyDeleteI just knew he was going to go there :-) So happy for him and glad he has the Bates close by.Is crown college a two year program or four? I bet he meets his future wife there.CONGRADULATIONS!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat is he studying?
ReplyDeleteMay God continue to bless Joseph as well as all of the Duggar family. They are an inspiration to me.
ReplyDeleteWhat is he studying? How far along is he? Where is he staying? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThat's cool! Congrats to him!
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to him.
ReplyDeleteWow !!!!Thanks for sharing I did not know the Duggars went to college.
ReplyDeletei'm assuming hes moving then? Cause unless they duggars secretly have a teleporter then i don't know how this'll work.
ReplyDeletePretty cool though, wish I had the courage to move away for collage.
I am so glad to hear this. I would love to see all the Duggar children continue their education. I wish Joseph all the best. Does anyone know if any of the other Duggar children have ever gone to college?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing he's hanging with the Bates. Good for you Joseph for venturing out. It would be awesome to see the girls do the same.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see one of the Duggars continuing with his education after high school! It's amazing at how helpful a degree is when looking for a job!
ReplyDeleteI knew one of them was going to get a bachelors degree. I was always tired of critics complaining that none of the kids went to college. Well Finally! :D I wonder what he will major in. I strongly hope the daughters seek to go to earn a degree as well.
ReplyDeleteJill has a Bachelors degree in Nursing Science.
DeleteHope you have an awesome time at college. Our family is praying for you.
ReplyDeleteI have four little boys :) this makes me smile :) I pray they look to older men like Joseph for encouragement.
ReplyDeleteThat is absolutely awesome news. Fisrt, Crown Bible College is accepted by the Duggars. Who knows what is next! Med school? Law school? Yippee! And he is single! The Duggars have children that have the brains and the financial means to get a really awesome education to help the rest of the world. Baby steps.
ReplyDeleteOoh this could be exciting living so near the Bates family maybe he will get to know one of the Bates girls - everyone's been waiting for a Duggar/Bates courtship!
ReplyDeleteSomething must have motivated him to go there.
ReplyDeleteIs it true that this college costs $24,000 a year without including many expenses?
ReplyDeleteYes Crown is an expansive school
DeleteNo, according to their new website, cost per semester for dormitory students is $6,550 ($13,100 per year). It can be more if you take extra courses, but certainly not $24,000 a year.
DeleteCrown College is a wonderful college! We wish that the Lord would have lead you to Pensecola Christian with us this fall but so excited for you! ;-)
ReplyDeleteDo we know what he's studying there? Is he staying with the Bates or is he in a dorm? I had a look at their website it looks good.
ReplyDeleteWhat is his major? It's a wonderful school!
ReplyDeleteany idea what joseph is studying? are any of the bates currently enrolled too? (nathan?)
ReplyDeleteyou mean he leaved home? He is living aline now?
ReplyDeletehow exciting; what will he study; is leaving with the Bates family?
ReplyDeleteIt must be had to leave home and move so far away.
ReplyDeleteHappy late Birthday Joseph! Enjoy your experience at Crown College!
ReplyDeleteDo you live with the Bates now?
Wow, so far from home. Could he be considering courting one of the Bates' girls? Is that not the college that many of them attend?
ReplyDeleteGood for you Joseph your an outstanding young man
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your decision to attend college. May God make his direction clear to you.
ReplyDeleteWe are in Nashville and feel sure you will enjoy your time in TN.
Blessings, Ms. Sherry
what is his major?
ReplyDeleteKnoxville is great! I live 40 min away. Good luck and if you need a church look us up. Parkway Baptist Church in Athens, TN. We are having youth revival Feb. 14 & 15. Join us if you can.
ReplyDeleteJoseph - my prayer for you is that God sends you a Christ-like wife to cherish and share these morning Devo's with!
ReplyDeletewhen does the duggers start?
ReplyDeleteSo proud of him. I'm glad to see the Duggar kids start college. What is Joseph's major?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a very good matchmaker, but seems Carlin would be a good match for Joseph. :)
ReplyDeleteYes! I have thought for a while now that Carlin & Joseph would be great together! :)
DeleteCollege is one way but Jim Bob did well without attending a college. There is a lot more to success than hanging out with others in a building.
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO, I AM PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAny updates on the girls education? It's always the boys that get featured.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with college.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since we've seen a picture of Jill that shows her belly. Do you have any new ones? She's probably 30 or more weeks by now. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAw- how wonderful. I'll be 20 this summer and am a junior in college. What is Joseph majoring in?
ReplyDeleteI love the duggars, but it has always irked me how they don't send their children to college despite the fact they have the financial ability to pay the college tuition. The duggar children have so much potential, they are intelligent, honest, compassionate people who could be world class doctors or teachers or other occupations. Way to go Joe for being the first duggar kid to go for a higher education!!! I hope his siblings, especially sisters, follow in his footsteps. It is possible for a woman to get a college degree AND be a wonderful mother, wife, and teacher to get kids.
ReplyDeleteGood for him. Hope he goes far
ReplyDeleteWhat!! Can the "boy`s only go on college? It´s not fare against the girl`s!
ReplyDeleteAccording to the Bates blog, Nathan and Tori attend Crown College and Erin is an alumna.
ReplyDeleteJoseph may God richly bless you as you begin this new journey. I pray God will direct your footsteps.
ReplyDeletecamp onyasha
ReplyDeletewas my only home away from home experaince
16- 20
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt might cost that much for an entire two year degree. I checked it out (Google is your friend.) It looks like a great place. If he's going for the mechanics degree - that's about $20,000 for two years. Including room & board - which is very reasonable.
Sooo proud of you Joseph!! You have a wonderful future ahead!! God bless you!!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear about Joseph.
ReplyDeleteBible College is a great way to go!
His passion for the Lord will lead him to wonderful things in life!
Great job Joseph. Happy Birthday!
As a former member of Temple Baptist Church (of which Crown is a ministry) unless they have changed the name recently (I just checked the website, it hasn't changed) the correcy name is The Crown College of the Bible, NOT Crown Bible College, and it is located in Powell, TN, not Knoxville.
ReplyDeleteAlso, some clarification on where he's staying would be nice. Of he is indeed living with the Bates family, that is a major exception to the rules, as any out of state student must stay in the dormitory if they are under 23 (again, if memory serves me correctly) or if they are living with an immediate family member. So, are the Duggars abiding by the rules?
Wishing you all the best in your pursuit of a college degree. Joseph have a wonderful time in the upcoming years.
ReplyDeleteMarion and Joan
Congratulations to you Joseph. Wishing you all good things during your college years.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn
Is Jana going to study at college too?
ReplyDelete"How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Thy word." Sounds like he's doing that! Praise God for that and may he continue.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Joseph! I hope College is great for you!
ReplyDeleteI hope Joe plays football for his new alma mater!! He'll make a great quarterback!! Maybe even date a cute little cheerleader!!
ReplyDeletei want to go to college right now but i am just a kid so i must wait
ReplyDeleteThat is fantastic news!!!
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful experiences in his future.
All the best
Joseph, I have a funny feeling that you might meet your special someone during this time in College. Enjoy this time in your life. Say Hi to the Bates family for me. Tell them it's from the lady in Kelowna, BC Canada who sent them the huge Xmas present 3 yrs back. Regards to your family. Teresa
ReplyDeleteI dont understand why people think none of the girls went to college. You have to have a college education to be amid wife so yes the girls go to college to
ReplyDeleteYou can be a certified professional midwife with no "higher education." One must complete an intense apprenticeship and skills/knowledge test. A couple years of assisting in births is not sufficient. That sounds more like a doula/labor assistant than an actually certified professional midwife.
Delete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous 58,
Right now, the show is scheduled to return on February 17th. We will keep you posted. :)
Blessings,
Lily and Ellie
Is this an accredited college? Can you obtain a degree and go on to med school, or law school? How do employers view degrees from a bible college? In my country they are not recognized the same as major universities or colleges.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless You Tell Bates The To visit NC
ReplyDeleteIs it true that this college only allows interracial dating if their administration approves? That seems like discrimination.
ReplyDeleteThe parents of both parties must approve.
DeleteThat is such great news! What is he majoring in?
ReplyDeleteMarilyn, in Arkansas, a college education is not required to become a doula (Jana) or a midwife (Jill). Both girls have been shown several times on the family's television show training with a local midwife.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous above states that Jim Bob did well despite foregoing college, and that “there is a lot more to success than hanging out with others in a building." If this is meant to be a description of what attending college is like, it upsets me. I studied accounting in college, initially at night while I worked full-time to save the money necessary. It was very hard, and I spent all my time either working or studying for six years. It was definitely worth it, though, because my education allowed me to work in banking as I desired, and I was fortunate enough to become the youngest Assistant Vice President in Citicorps' history. It certainly is possible to be successful without a college education, but many jobs are only available to those with a college degree. A college degree also provides a measure of security because graduates are likely to earn more during their careers than those without degrees, and they are less likely to be laid off during periods of recession. And, although it is difficult, I do believe that anyone can pursue a college education - even though doing so may take longer than four years. I wish Joseph Duggar, and all other college students now, the very best as they pursue their education, and start their careers!
ReplyDeleteIn reply to Anon. 94's question about accreditation: No, Crown College is not accredited. It wouldn't be possible to go from CC to law/med school, etc. You need a 4 year accredited degree to get into higher ed programs like that.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIn a reply to Anonmous-70,
Actually, Crown is a very inexpensive school. According to its website, the tuition is only $5200 per year which is extremely low compared to the average for private colleges ($31,231). But then Crown in not accredited, so I guess you get what you pay for.
Would they let any of the girls go to college?
ReplyDeleteGood luck at college!
ReplyDeleteHas Joseph declared a major? If so, which one?
ReplyDelete
