19 Blessings and Counting

Happy Thanksgiving to our lovely readers! The Duggars came up with 19 things they are thankful for:

1. We are thankful for the Bible that reveals why God made each one of us and His loving plan and purpose for our lives.

2. We are also thankful that the Bible teaches us what God wants us to do and not do.

3. We are thankful for Jesus, God’s son who came to the earth 2,000 years ago, who lived a perfect life and taught us the true meaning of life.

4. We are thankful for the Ten Commandments that make us realize that we all have lied, stolen something, or sinned in some way and need God’s mercy.

5. We are also thankful for Jesus who laid down His own life, suffered being tortured and executed to pay the penalty for the things we have done wrong.

6. We are thankful that we can know for sure that we are going to Heaven when we die by asking for Jesus's forgiveness, turning over the control of our life to Jesus, and asking Him to take us to Heaven when we die.

7. We are thankful for the joy that comes into our life when we become a follower of Jesus and how life starts to make sense.

8. We are thankful [that] as we start reading the Bible, God will start directing our lives in a supernatural way.

9. We are thankful that we can talk to Jesus and share everything with Him, and that He loves us no matter what we have done.

10. We are thankful for God’s Holy Spirit that comes into our spirit after we become a follower of Jesus and helps us navigate through life.

11. We are thankful for prayer, that it is not only us talking to Jesus, but Him also speaking to us in our heart and guiding our life.

12. We are thankful for all of the examples in the Bible of people to model our lives after.

13. We are thankful for the close fellowship and encouragement we can have with others who are also seeking to live for Jesus.

14. We are thankful for the closeness a family can have when each family member is committed to serving God and each other.

15. We are thankful for the joy that comes when we take the opportunity to share with others how they can also have a relationship with Jesus.

16. We are thankful for our country that was founded as one nation under God!

17. We are thankful for all of the women and men who are are in the military who are fighting to protect our freedom, and we are thankful for those in the past who have even given their lives for our country.

18. We are thankful we live America, a country that even though it is not perfect, it is a beacon of hope to everyone in the world!

19. We are thankful for Thanksgiving Day, when each one of us can reflect on all of the blessings God has given us, and commit to make every day a thanksgiving day!

  6. A 'beacon to the world?' Huh? Not necessarily true. Many people outside of America think it's a wasteful country, destroying our beautiful planet with consumerism and greed. X, Gaby.

  10. There is more to life than Jesus. I understand being a devout Christian, but I can't imagine what it must be like to live with every single thought being about God.

  17. @Chloe. It is truly a beautiful feeling...you see God in every thing, even the difficult and heartbreaking. Oneness is what we all in our own ways are journeying towards. Best to you.

  20. Maybe so, but if this was the norm, we wouldn't have border problems. Just saying.

  21. I am thankful Jim Bob taught me not to react in anger , Thanksgiving a clerical mix up caused a large $ loss for me and I was not angry, inwardly or outwardly. Before I believed anger was the righteous way to act in a situation like that. Now I know better.

  23. Love you Duggars! I hope Jana marries Tim T. I think she is beautiful and looks just like the actress Jeanie Francis (from General Hospital}. I photoshopped Jana's hair more blonde with highlights and she is absolutely stunning and gorgeous!

  24. Happy Thanksgiving!!! I love how you came up with 19 different things that you are Thankful for. Our family went around and each reflected one thing that we are thankful for. We had about 30 family members over, so we saw 30 different things that people are thankful for. You are such an inspiration Duggars! And a great influence too. Have a blessed Thanksgiving! and a wonderful Christmas soon to come!

That is not true. As a Christian, your whole life should be surrounded by God. The whole reason we are on this earth is to serve God. Not for our own pleasure, not for other people, but for God. So if you call yourself a Christian but don't live your best being towards God, how do you call yourself a Christian?

  26. I agree with Chloe. What a prideful response to her that she isn't christian enough. 17/19 are God related? No one sees this as overkill for appearance? Be grateful for God first, then military, they left out loads if they really needed a list that long. Derricks mom is doing better. Two new family members. A baby on the way and a healthy pregnancy. All of them are healthy. They have the material things they need in life like food and shelter. If they had to come up with 19, they could have managed to branch out a little more, or just shortened the list.

  27. "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” John 14:21

  28. Anonymous 29, I half way agree with you. Yes, we should serve God while on earth; I agree with that, but we were also put on this earth by God to "live and learn". The Almighty, IMO, doesn't want us to ONLY have Him on our minds,, but to live out life as well. We grow with experience here, good AND BAD experience. To insulate oneself from life and decisions that we should be free to discern and decide for ourselves is not proving our strength in our faiths to God. During difficult times we turn to Him for His response and repair. My opinion is the Duggars shield and protect their kids from experiencing life and living out the abilities to decide those things in life that would prove their faith to THEMSELVES and show the Almighty and themselves what they have learned as a result of their experience. The Duggar kids are SO protected from "making a mistake" that they are 100% guaranteed to succeed; not from their own abilities, but from the safeguards put upon them by their parents. That proves nothing at all. If they have confidence in their "training" of the kids, and in their children's ability to uphold those teachings, ON THEIR OWN, when no one is watching, they wouldn't require those strict rules of never going to the store alone, working in the outside world without a guard, and chaperones. They can't fail for they are insulated from actually thinking for themselves. This is not a rude criticism, but a neutral observation of their lifestyle...give your adult kids a chance to live out those teachings that you say you have don such a good job with, parents....you have to trust them sometime! Heck some of your kids are in their 20s.

  30. I'm sorry but I'm a proud catholic and God dident say that we don't have to do nothing and just end up in heaven for Christians without the sacraments of confession, and the true presence of holy Eucharist, heaven isent sure fire when christens regect Catholicism you can't just say " I'm sorry for my sins and that's that." And what christisn would pass up the chance to litterly consume christs true flesh and whittnes the all time sacrifice every Sunday! The duggars regection and most other Christians regection to believe that yes Jesus dident say "just kidding" after the words in the bible " this IS my body" " this IS my blood"! Regection when faced with conversion to Catholicism can lead to punishment, eternal punishment! You Christians put your souls on the line, Never feel afraid to join Christs flock that is the holy Catholic Church! His love alone is not enough to save you, you must do more than just love him back he died on the cross after all... It's time to do your part if you have any questions for me leave them in the comments below. you'll have to face God one day and answer for everything.
    God Bless you all,
    IFC
