If you walked into the Duggars' house, chances are good you would hear music. When Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar starting having kids, they decided they wanted to give them the gift of music. Neither comes from a musical background, so they are grateful to have found friends who have faithfully taught their kids weekly lessons for more than twenty years.
Each child starts off on violin at age three and piano at age five and is given the choice of picking up additional instruments as he or she grows older. As part of their homeschool routine, the school-aged kids are expected to practice music daily.
Impromptu jam sessions are a regular occurrence around the Duggar house, as the kids gather to play hymns and Gospel music, as well as classical tunes and bluegrass instrumentals. Check out this video of a recent Duggar jam session, featuring a hymn called "Send the Light" (lyrics below).

Send the Light
There’s a call comes ringing
o’er the restless wave,
“Send the light! Send the
light!”
There are souls to rescue,
there are souls to save,
Send the light! Send the
light!
Refrain:
Send the light, the
blessed Gospel light;
Let it shine from shore
to shore!
Send the light, the
blessed Gospel light;
Let it shine forevermore!
We have heard the Macedonian
call today,
“Send the light! Send the
light!”
And a golden off’ring at the
cross we lay,
Send the light! Send the
light!
Let us pray that grace may
everywhere abound,
“Send the light! Send the
light!”
And a Christlike spirit
everywhere be found,
Send the light! Send the
light!
Let us not grow weary in the work of love,
“Send the light! Send the
light!”
Let us gather jewels for a
crown above,
Send the light! Send the
light!
Does anyone know who the guy in the blue shirt next to David Waller is?
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite hymns!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your family and lives with us. I love your show and have watched from the beginning. A dream of mine is to meet you all some day.
ReplyDeleteThey are freaking amazing!!! God has given them such talent!!!
ReplyDeleteCan you tell us who the two young men are? I am not sure they are Duggars? Could it be that they are "special" friends of Jana and Jigger?
ReplyDeleteI hope so.💕
DeleteBlonde one is Anna's brother-inlaw David. Not sure who the other one is...
DeleteWhat a blessing each and everyone of you are, What a gift from god AMEN
ReplyDeleteWonderful!
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome. I wish I had started my kids early. It is just too expensive.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Your family is such a blessing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Family ! Very Blessed
ReplyDeleteI wish they would be able to enjoy modern music. Not all modern music encourages " shaking of body parts " y'know
ReplyDeleteI don't think you realize how beautiful hymns can be. I bet they play worship songs, too. They don't go against convictions.
DeleteLove the Duggar family, may God's Blessings always be yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome. :) Thanks for posting it. :-)
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! Brought me to tears.
ReplyDeleteI heard from a reliable source that The Duggars resigned their contracts for two years :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) So that should quiet the naysayers who keep thinking its getting cancelled.Happy posting y'all! :-) :-) :-)
ReplyDeleteWONDER-FULL!
ReplyDeleteLove the Duggars!
ReplyDeleteI think Jana would be an excellent piano teacher!
ReplyDeleteNo picture with music playing, why not?
ReplyDeletePretty! That sounds like fun. The Duggars sure are talented!!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! I wish I could play the piano like Jana and Jinger!! They are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!!! I LOVED it!! Please post more of these if you have the opportunity!?!?!
ReplyDeleteThe blonde gentleman is Priscilla's husband.
ReplyDeleteThe two young men are josh duggar and david waller which is annas sister husband
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 5 I think the blond man is Paul Waller who is married to Anna's sister Priscilla - the little blond boy is his son. Not sure about the other guy.
ReplyDeleteHis name is David :)
DeleteWow! And little Marcus is just standing there looking all cute!! 😁😘 love the duggars!
ReplyDeleteWhy are the Wallers always visiting the Duggars? They aren't inlaws. How often do they visit the Kellars in Florida? They are their family.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are friends, you dont have to be only family to visit someome, that statement made no sense.
DeleteThe two guys are David Waller, husband of Annas sister Priscilla, and his brother Derrick Waller.
ReplyDeletethe guy in the blue looks like one of David brothers ( married brother) there are pics on David and Priscilla's website
ReplyDeleteThe Duggar family always manages to find a "friend" to serve them for free. I'm sure they don't pay the music teacher anything for all these lessons all these years. Who is the music teacher? It's mysterious that everyone is only identified as friend.
ReplyDeleteThey are Derrick & David Waller. David is married to Anna's sister, Priscilla.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard that song in a long time! Thank you for posting the lyrics! I can sing it to myself as I read your post.
ReplyDeleteIt is always truly a blessing to see and hear them singing and playing together. It brings back memories from when my parents, siblings and I would do the same thing (usually on a Sunday afternoon). The family that plays together, stays together! God bless the Duggar family!
I live in NW Arkansas, too, and always wonder where the Duggars found those beautiful harps that are shown in the background!
ReplyDeleteI would like to see more of the music myself, our Dad always encouraged us to sing and play accordians.we have 6 hours of us singingand talking with mom and dad, one of my brothers made tapesfor all 9 of us. It is so nice to beable to do this together as a family.
ReplyDeleteI'm the eldest girl out of 9 children! How neat! I play the piano too... I love hymns, that's the majority of what I play. :)
DeleteI think the strumming (not sure if its just Josh or david or both?) is a bit rough; but, Jana sounds good! "Jammin" hymns seems strange!
ReplyDeleteSee Josie at 30 seconds pulling the stroller with her bike!! So cute!!!
ReplyDeleteHey wouldnt that be cool if David Wallers brother and Jana courted, his name is Derrick too..... that would be awesome:-)
ReplyDeleteNice
ReplyDeleteThe proud he has turned away empty and the humble he has filled with good things....why should the Duggars turn away empty from good things offered to them by willing friends. So what if they got music lessons from a friend for free? So they are humble enough to accept a blessing. Those children certainly did everyone credit and made very good on the gift that they received. I am sure Pa and Ma give of themselves to consistently discipline the children to do their practises.
ReplyDeleteThis was very interesting to watch I am always fascinated with the family I love jessa she my role model from the family
ReplyDeleteThe Duggar family are my role models before I saw them for the first time on television I was hooked and they made me be reborn again so now I am fully christain and all my thanks go to them thank you duggars for helping me
