Video: Josh Duggar in Iowa

Last weekend, Josh Duggar, executive director of Family Research Council Action, shared his vision for American politics at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa. He spoke about his family's values and how they are using their reality TV show, which they try to keep as real as possible, to spread those values.

Josh encouraged conference attendees to be courageous and to stand up for their beliefs. "Freedom is not the right to do what we want," he reminded them. "Freedom is the power to do what we ought." The video recording of Josh's speech is posted below.

  2. Josh said that the family tries to keep the show "real". Does that mean that there is some things that they just "fake" on TV for rating sake?

  3. I would like to see more about the Duggar Food Challenge. They told about breakfast and lunch, but not dinner & any snacks, etc.

  4. Don't get me wrong I love the Duggars and I think most of what they do is great for the world. But... isn't thinking marriage is one man and one woman very selfish. I get to be in a commited relationship with the blessing of God with the one I love but you can't. You have to be alone...

  5. How can a scripted/staged reality show be "real". The Duggar TV show isn't "as it happens", it's set up, staged and videotaped with rehearsals.

  6. Can you please update the pictures on the original Duggar Family Blog page? I love the new design but the pictures are a little outdated.

  8. Great job, Josh!! It’s encouraging to see the young people take their place in society & politics today. We need more like Josh.

  10. Josh is gifted for this job to speak very strongly to defending the most basic rights and freedoms that are under attack by the government in the U.S.A.

    1. Those aren't rights! The Supreme Court has found it unconstitutional to ban gay marriage so taking that away is taking away rights. And you still have your freedom. What josh is wanting is for others freedom to be taken away so Christians can have this country run the way they want.

  11. The freedom to do what we ought is to do the good, righteous things. What hinders and restrains thinking people is the bad consequences and alienation from a holy God and loss of hope.

  12. it takes courage to voice your opinions. Good for you Josh!! You made your parents proud!! I hope you keep on voicing your opinions and that you don't allow any one to stop you.

Keep standing up for what is right. If only more people would do the same society would be a better place for all of us.

  15. Freedom - Liberty in beautiful US means all of us can say what we feel such as we are not agreed with Josh. I am French based in the UK love your family, your country but find some of your views a quite extreme if you do not mind me to admit it.

  16. I am thankful Josh is speaking out so clearly because the fact is that people who make choices that are not Godly are imposing this choice onto people who will not willingly make those choices because they understand them to be wrong doing. Now in the name of freedom Josh is standing up and explaining that people should defend their right to freely choose good lives as defined by the Bible because this right is clearly being eroded by majority choices made into laws and now everyone is forced to support them and losing their right to speak out against what they believe is wrong to do.

  17. It's possible to be a devoted Christian and still disagree with Josh's public policy. I enjoy the Duggars as family but the deeper that he gets into the partisan politics of the Family Research Council the more I part ways. The recent candidates that Josh has campaigned for have all lost.

  18. Wow Josh your speech was amazing! Your family has been a HUGE encouragement to me to raise my children for the Lord and how to be a godly mother! I honestly can not thank you enough! All the glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

  19. Looks like there are people in the US who confuse freedom with all choices being of the same merit. Clearly the Bible states some choices are life and some choices are death. Then God tells people whom he created to choose life. Freedom is essential to our being created human by God. God explains in the Bible: I set before you life and death - therefore choose life. God sets it before us but he does not choose it for us. This condition is intrinsic to existence, the conundrum that Josh is addressing is that people in government who are choosing death have stretched the choice out like an umbrella over all the citizens of the United States and eroded the individual freedom of choice of all Americans who want to choose life and make all the choices they understand are good. Josh is urging people to see their opportunity to get involved and defend individual liberties from being taken away from the individuals. For example: How can individual people be said to respect and choose life if the government chooses abortion, birth control, etc. and makes every tax payer support that death choice?

  20. I'm sorry folks, but this family is making an error in pushing their personal political and religious beliefs here on this website and on their TV show. If you notice, they, too, are sneaking all these things in. This was supposed to be a site where viewers comment on the show and the family as it relates to their happenings, not their politics. Josh should have his own separate work/political/religious belief websites separately from here. Please take note, Ellie and Lily.
I am a heterosexual, married Christian person and I don't believe that everyone in this good old USA needs to live and believe as I do.
Please do not post any more political views, actions, or statements from this family on this website. It was not intended for this purpose. Josh has a right to speak his mind publically if that's what his job is, so keep it to another website dedicated to those issues.

  21. Some how comment 2 about the freedom to choose right or wrong given by God is contradictory to the question who is going to determine what the ought is going to be. People ought not do what is wrong and they ought to do what is right. In this comment please note if the base of your argument is God gave the freedom to do right or wrong, then there is also going to be definitions of right and wrong given by God, then there is by deduction going to be an ought to do and an ought not to do, there fore God is going to be the one determining the ought. Read your own words and answer your own question:
"Who is going to determine what the OUGHT in his definition is going to be???? GOD GAVE MAN FREEDOM AND THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHAT THEY WANT TO DO."
Seriously I do not think people want to die...Josh is right to speak strongly to people and stir them to action. That is God's will, choose life, do what you ought to do.

  22. The following comment has a mistake that changes the meaning, so please change defending to defend to get the meaning accurate. I wrote it so it is ok for me to ask you to correct that. Thank-you.

  23. Saying, " if they really believe in freedom, wouldn't be fighting abortion and gay rights. ", is quite a statement to make. Evidently people who really believe in freedom do this. I would not suggest that Josh does not really believe in freedom. The question is really ... why do people who really believe in freedom fight abortion and gay rights? This is a question Josh would be able to answer if asked and if listened to.

  24. Love the show and the family! Always willing to allow this family to have their beliefs and live the way they choose...but not willing to except "campaigning" to have other's beliefs and ways of life removed...That is WRONG!! If the Show and TLC is going to support this....I can't support the show and/or Network!! What made this loving family and show appear to be special... was the way they seemed to live & let live.. yet stay true to themselves... (After-all ..weren't they asking everyone watching to except that about them)..... But with what Josh is getting involved in with this "new job" in Washington...that's crossing boundaries that's not his to cross! (This is not religion....It's Politics !!...... And if people can't see that...then perhaps "people" are being less than honest here)! Hope young Josh reconsiders his calling...And maybe even takes a deeper look at why this Organization even asked him to join their group to begin with....(Maybe that's the "Agenda" that young Josh Duggar should be questioning)....

  25. The Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, has already ruled that both the right to an abortion and the right to gay marriage are constitutionally protected. Joshua Duggar, who is, I am sure, very bright, does not hold a college degree, let alone a law degree, so he seems unsuited to question the legitimacy or competence of the greatest legal scholars in the country. For Joshua the bible is clearly where he retrieves his knowledge and values, and that is completely respectable, but even he must identify and comprehend the strict separation of church and state in the Establishment Clause in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

  28. Two of the same do not pro create more in God's image. So yeah the only way is for a man and a woman to be in a married relationship. The rest are not alone, there are still lots of people in the world.

  29. If people from the right do not speak up like Josh and the Duggars are doing then the people do not get messages about what to choose in life. There are many messages put out in the media that reach people all day everyday promoting life choices that are not condoned in the Bible. Myself I never knew I was going the way of the world with my life. The Duggars are literally the only people who's Biblical life choices message reached me and I realized how I had been straddling the fence on important choices all my life. I am happy to hop off and go to the right. It is such a relief to stop entertaining sinfulness and be free. I am ashamed of some of the stuff I did. Thank-you Josh.

  30. Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
This saying by Jesus definitely references right or ought to. Josh is not just blowing off steam.

  31. Once again, Ellie and LIly, this is not a political or religious site. Please think again before posting political and strictly religious issues here. This is a blog about the family, their daily activities and the TV show. The politics should be on another website dedicated to those things.

  32. Educated people respect Josh because he is an on the job apprentice and he is getting all the same information any students in other institutions are getting. People fear those who can now be flexible and utilize today's alternative learning methods and increased potential for accelerated learning. "Love the Lord your God with all your mind, with all your strength and all your heart." Daniel 12:4 knowledge shall be increased.
Josh is brilliant and he is right on the cutting edge of knowledge and events that are occurring.

I personally enjoy hearing what the Duggars are up to in all areas of their life, even politics. Josh is a member of the family, and his speaking engagements are part of his daily life. :-)

  35. People try to take the God of the Bible out of life, politics, secular life governed by politics, the Duggar family news (as a comment above begged to be done), etc.
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. (KJV) Please read Matthew chapter 3 "1...John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." This was a voice by a prophet of God to ALL. Josh Duggar has a high calling/position and he is obedient in fulfilling this role he was called to.

  36. All I can say about the comment to Lily and Ellie to censor the blog is Josh was talking about increasing faith and courage and he noted a woman who had her baby while she was in chains in a prison because she would not deny Jesus Christ.
