It's official! Jill (Duggar) Dillard is pregnant!
Thirty days after her wedding, while Jill Dillard was hanging out at her family's house with husband Derick, her sisters convinced her to take one of Michelle's pregnancy tests. Jill had previously taken two pregnancy tests, and both had come back negative. She and Derick were shocked when this one came back positive.
"It was surreal," Derick Dillard told People Magazine. "We were shocked. Both of us are so excited."
Jill and Derick couldn't hide their joy, so they gathered all the Duggars in the living room the following day and made the announcement.
"Everyone was clapping and cheering, and we were in shock, too," Jim Bob Duggar told People Magazine.

I can't believe it... well... I guess I can.
ReplyDeleteIt's not really a surprise seeing as their relationship has progressed so quickly.
In my head, I imagined them exploring the world together first but I am extremely excited to watch their family grow!
I thought the same thing especially with them both wanting to travel and do mission work in foreign countries. Much harder to so with babies. Hope they enjoy parenthood.
DeleteI'm not surprised, with Derrick's mom having health issues I figured they would want her to see as many grand babies as the Lord allows. Plus we know plenty of missionary families. A child or children do not deem you unable to do mission work. God bless them all!!

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! My husband and I began having children immediately after we were married, and I've been surprised at how our marriage has been blessed beyond measure from this choice. Jill and Derick are making countercultural choices in being so generously open to life, but I'm sure they too will reap incredible blessings as a result.

ReplyDeleteI enjoy following this family and respect them. I am happy they are happy. But wow, I cannot imagine getting pregnant so soon after getting married. My husband and I have been married 3 years and just had our first child. It is such a huge transition to be married, add in a pregnancy and baby within the first year-that is a lot of stress- it can be good stress - but it is stress nonetheless. I hope Jill is able to continue with her midwifery. It would be a shame if she doesn't complete her certification to be a CPM because she, herself, is having babies. :-/

ReplyDeleteI am happy for them, but wished they had chosen to wait at least a year or so before trying to get pregnant. They haven't known one another that long, and it would be nice if they could spend some time together as a couple before they decided to have children. I was really hoping that Jill, in particular, had been able to be independent without the worry of a baby and the Duggar expectation of a herd.

ReplyDeleteIn the top/home page banner (with everyone's pictures), you should list Jill and Derick with Jill's name first rather than Derick's. This way it will still be clear which of the couple is the original "Duggar" child. So it would be, "Josh and Anna," "Jill and Derick," "Jessa and Ben," etc. Just a suggestion!

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but she looks much farther along than 8 weeks pregnant. Maybe that's why they had such a quick turnaround for the wedding. In any case, I'm thrilled for them and their new bundle of joy. Wishing Derrick and Jill a long, healthy pregnancy and a beautiful healthy child in March.

DeleteI got pregnant in May and am due in February, Jill could have easily gotten pregnant in June after the wedding. They had a quick wedding to cut down on the temptation of each other outside of wedlock.

ReplyDeleteFrom the most recent articles published, it sounds like Jill is stuggling with a great deal of morning sickness. I assume this nausea prompted more than one pregnancy test and if a woman takes a pregnancy test too early it will not detect the pregnancy hormone. This is probably why Jill's sisters encouraged another test. But as it stands us fans can only guess as to the actual circumstances, we will only find out the real reason if Jill and Derick decide to share this private information.

I am really excited about this, the duggars are the only 'celebrities' I know anything about, it helps that their show is about their lives. They just seem like they are such a nice family and they share our values. Its amazing how they can reach so many people! Anyway Jill seems like she's just the sweetest young woman and Detek just seems perfect for her, God has wonderful plans! I am so excited to hear they'll be parents soon, what a blessing!!! Life is short and now is the time to welcome these blessings, I hope that they can really enjoy this time!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I thought you were pregnant because I noticed in your recent pictures you looked very pale. Having had two children myself I recognized the signs. I hope your pregnancy goes well for you and as you well know as uncomfortable as morning sickness is, it is a good sign that you are producing enough HCG hormone to sustain the pregnancy. That was super fast ., they must have been blessed with a honeymoon baby.congrats to the happy couple they are gonna be great parents .Jill is gonna have an easy time being a mom she already has been like a mother for many years taking care of her siblings. and being a midwife is gonna make her pregnancy a breeze for her cuz she already understands what's going on with her body and baby.... I hope these two branch out on the whole baby name thing and don't stick to.just one letter. my guess is that if they are pregnant with a boy they will name him after Derick's late father to honor him in that way :)

ReplyDeleteEverything happens fast for this couple. Their first Skype was a year ago August - now married and pregnant. Whoa. Most couples would be a little nervous, but Jill definitely knows what to expect while they're expecting (midwife) and certainly knows about kids. I think Derick enjoys the roller coaster. After all, they met in Nepal.

I think it is way to soon. They just got married. They haven't even been together long enough to know each other let alone have a child together. They are taking things way to fast. Seriously this family needs to slow down before they run into problems.

It's pretty common - go check out any of the TTC message boards at babycenter.com and you will see what I mean. Just wanted to enlighten you, as your post sounded judgmental of Michelle, like she was doing something abnormal. :)

ReplyDeleteSo, Jill is about 6 weeks then? Usually people announce in the 2nd trimester, because at the very early stages of pregnancy something still can happen to the pregnancy. Erin Bates just had a miscarriage, and she was around 9 weeks I think. I would be afraid to announce so early. What is something happens, then it would be more painful to have all those fans express condolences.

ReplyDeleteI think that Derick and Jill should have waited to let people know about their pregnancy since she is only 6 weeks along...She really should have waited until she is in the second trimester, just to be safe.
ReplyDeleteThe thought came to me that make-up contains chemicals and the skin absorbs what is applied to it into the blood stream. That fact is why some chemicals people want to take are applied with patches, like nicotine for example. Jill has studied to be a mid wife, I would think in the interests of the purity of her health as an expectant mother she would not apply chemical (questionable what is all in those products) based products to her skin.

Secondly, to those surprised by their surprise at getting pregnant right away: my husband and I began trying on our wedding night and it took us two years to get our precious baby girl (through prayers and no medical interventions), so for many couples, conception is difficult and doesn't "just take one time."
Thirdly, to those surprised at their early announcement: as someone who lost babies, I can tell you this: to go through that suffering alone (as a couple), the emotional torment is actually far worse. If, God forbid, she lost the baby, I truly believe there would be such an outpouring of support and prayers that it would make it easier for her. When we shared what was going on, so many people reached out to us, giving us love, hope, and home-cooked meals :). I think it's wonderful they could share so early- now a world of viewers/readers (including me!) can pray for a safe, healthy, happy pregnancy!
Ok so they got married a month ago & she is due in 7 months so that means she would have to be 1 month pregnant when they married as she is two months pregnant now!! I'm really surprised with such strict "corting" requirements ...???

ReplyDelete@AnonymousYes her life is something some could envy. I personally have a hard time with their perfect lives. It's just not realistic. Most people have hardships and difficulties in life. Her life appears to be without any hardships at all. This family may present the ideal but it's just not the typical family . . . financially well off, no health problems, great job, great husband, no one argues, etc.
ReplyDeleteI have 8 children and i order my pregnancy tests in bulk from ebay. they are dirt cheap buying them this way. 50 tests on ebay cost the same as getting 1 from the store. And ive had at least two ladies ask for a test because they are too expensive from a store. Michelle may of kept a stockpile with anna and her married or soon to be married daughters in mind.

ReplyDeleteJill and Derick seem like lovely, giving people, and I wish them happiness. I also wish the women in the Duggar family were exposed to further education, careers, and independence. What if the worst happens, and one of these young girls is stuck with 5 kids and no husband?
ReplyDeleteWhile I do admire the Duggars close family and giving nature, I feel the daughters are not given a chance to be anything other than baby-makers.
Once the family knew, I imagine it would be hard to keep quiet. PLUS, with camera crews always around, the morning sickness & early changes will be caught on film. I imagine it was just easier to put it out there than to let the fans speculate. Everyone is wanting to see Jill & Derick, there is NO WAY for them to remain low-profile. Can you imagine the impossibility of keeping a secret with 20 people already knowing?
ReplyDeleteFor some reason think might be twins. That seems to run in her family and she does seem to appear larger than the weeks pregnant in the last picture. Wish they had waited for awhile, but seem to really love each other, so hopefully this will not cause anything but good changes to their marriage.

@Anonymous It's nice that you desire what you feel is best for them. Just remember that being a "baby-maker" is quite full-fulling as well. As for the "worst".... God always provides... sometimes through term life insurance.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous I didn't mean to sound so crude with my comment. I just realized how sick it sounded, my apologies. I just meant that if we are able and do our financial planning (which the Duggars are obviously very good at)than there is no need to make important family planning decisions out of fear. I have 5 small children and if anything ever happened to my wonderful husband or myself everyone left would be devastated because we depend on each other for many things. Still, if a tragedy like that came I know that we would make it because we have worked hard to become and remain debt free and to do our other financial planning (meaning life insurance on each of us). When you are not afraid than it is easier to make whatever decision you think God is telling you to make.

Everyone carries differently and you are certainly not a professional who has llooked at bloodwork and an ultrasound , so you reallly have no business making that comment.By saying that you're also calling them liars about their faith and the way they've handled their relationship. I believe they are genuine and honest. They always had someone with them anyway, but even without that I believe they lived up to what they said. It's mean and unnecessary for you to try and undermine them.Honeymoon baby-happens all the time. Best wishes guys! Lauren

ReplyDeleteI am not a frequent viewer of 19 Kids and counting but I admire their family deeply, Derick and Jill's story has made me cry and the unity and love that the Duggars show to each member of their family has brought tears to my eyes. When I view the episodes all I think about is God's divine plan for man-kind and how he indeed His creation to love, cherish, nurture and live. I see the favour of the Lord upon each member of all the families presented.
ReplyDeleteThe words of Jesus Christ are true and each time I watch an episode it gives me hope that God will work things out for my good. I grew up with alot of brokenness and neglect and as the Lord continues to heal me I see that living for righteousness can be achieved.
Thank you for being a Christ-like example in the latter days. I love the purity that Derick and Jill showed to the world, continue going hard for the Lord.
Several people have commented on Jill and Derick expecting so soon, but is it really ?? Apparently this is what THEY wanted and I am very happy for them and pray this will be an easy pregnancy for Jill. BTW, my parents met each other while in the Navy. They knew each other for 28 days, got married had their 1st child 11 months later and in less than 8 years God gave my parents 5 more children, yep there are 6 of us. We are all now in our late 50's and early 60's.My Mom and Dad were married for 1 month shy of 50 years when my father passed away 15 years ago, we just lost our Mom last month and I think of them and miss them so much, but they are now back together again !! Wishing Jill and Derick nothing but happiness and all the baby's God will gift you !!

ReplyDeleteFor those of you discussing their "perfect lives"... Anyone's lives could appear "perfect" if you only filmed the good moments. We all have those. I have to remind myself when I watch the duggars that I'm only seeing moments of their daily lives. There are plenty of things that happen off the camera. They aren't to blame for this perception...I admire them for allowing their lives to be on display & setting a great example for families to follow. I can't think of better role models for my children. If you are truly struggling w envy towards them, get their first two books. They describe in detail their struggles financially & w health.

ReplyDeleteI only knew my husband 3 months, and got pregnant in the next few month I got married in july 1978 ad had my son july 1979,i have been married ever since, I just hope they stay together cause you really have to work on a marriage.I watch them regularly and looking forward to seeing their new baby
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Jill and Derick: We are so proud of the whole family. I met my husband in Bible College, we kept our courtship Christian and to our surprise got pregnant on our honeymoon. That was 52 years ago. Our oldest daughter is 51. We were married just barely under 10 months when she was born. We have been so blessed. We had a total of six children. Now there are many grandchildren and more on the way. Wish we could populate the whole world with people like you and our family!!
