As part of their food challenge, Jessa and Joy Duggar are sticking to a strict diet for three weeks. Yesterday, we shared what they eat for lunch: cubed chicken and sweet potatoes cooked in olive oil and seasoned with sea salt and pepper.
For breakfast, the girls enjoy a serving of green beans and two fried eggs.
What is your favorite breakfast food?

Coffee. Is coffee a food? I don't know but two cups of coffee a day is a daily breakfast for me, definitely not healthy.Maybe I should get on board the health food challenge:)
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty cool... Are Jessa and Ben engaged yet? Everyone seems to think so.... Lover your family and God Bless you all!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreen beans for breakfast? Lol
ReplyDeleteI seriously need to try this. A diet in my opinion is so hard to stick to.
ReplyDeleteHope those beans are fresh. Canned are too high in sodium and frozen are usually rubbery.
ReplyDeleteFor a healthy breakfast, I like steamed spinach and a salmon omelet.
ReplyDeleteJust curious...where did they get this diet from? It doesn't seem that healthy. Eggs have a lot of cholesterol and frying them on top of that is not healthy. Also, sweet potatoes are high in antioxidants but also rather fattening. A raw diet with lots of fruits and veggies along with lean meats that are grilled or baked would be a great healthy eating plan:)
ReplyDeleteThe eggs are poached. This is from the whole 30 challenge. Sweet potatoes are great for you. You should support the girls for making good choices. BTW its only for a month.
DeleteGood luck Jessa and Joy-anna! Hope you can stick to it. But seriously green beans and fried eggs for breakfast! Sounds like their version of Dr. Suess' "Green Eggs and Ham." Though chicken pieces and sweet potatoes cooked with olive oil sounds good.
ReplyDeleteFresh hash browns with bacon bits, fried egg and honey dew melon. The girls should be eating fruits and vegetables too.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely scrambled eggs!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFried eggs? That's not healthy, especially when trying to do a healthy diet.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the grains?
ReplyDeleteIs there a health issue they are facing? They don't need to lose weight. Are they trying to gain? The menu doesn't suggest that either.
Didn't Mrs. Duggar have an eating issue? I hope she is watching the girls carefully.
fried eggs arnt good. Boiled would be better or even poached.
ReplyDeleteEven though fresh eggs are great protein and green beans are a great green vegetable a smoothie or some oatmeal might be great with this too. I guess you could say if I'm going on a diet I like it to be a balanced one... But my favorite breakfast would have to be(not counting any diet) French toast and hashbrowns
ReplyDeleteI have to say I would hate this for breakfast. My favourite breakfast is an almond croissant with a large latte! But I dont have that every day. Usually I have toast and a regular coffee.
ReplyDeleteOh and BTW, one more thing, Jessa has already lost a lot of weight since Ben came into the picture and does not need to lose any more. Why is she doing this?
ReplyDeleteMy favourite breakfast is porridge with a cup cofee.
ReplyDeleteThe pocture made my mouth watered i love green beans!
how healty is that. who in the world thought of that diet? as soon as they stop eating like that they gain the weight back. the duggars are not the healty eaters from what i have seen on tv. plus they travel a lot so i really do not see them eating a real healthy diet.
ReplyDeleteYogurt with granola or blueberries.
ReplyDeleteReese puffs cereal
ReplyDeleteMy favorite breakfast food is a big ole cinnamon roll (ideally from Cinnabon). :) But since I'm being health conscious, I eat those rarely and instead I have a faux Reese's protein smoothie. Yum! Very filling too. My second favorite would be a BLT (with turkey bacon) and those are a healthier choice too.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if they have heard of The Daniel Plan by Rick Warren. But it's a great book about how to eat and live better through God and the Bible. I know they are already honoring God, however, this book helps to show your love to God by treating your body as God would want.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of green beans for breakfast & I think poached eggs would be a much healthier alternative to fried. Also, I agree with the other person who commented; where's the fruit & more vegetables.
ReplyDeleteFried eggs?
ReplyDeleteThose beans look like they were boiled in butter. They should be steamed...
Where is their fruit?
Goodness
Sounds yummy....but why are they on diets? They are very slender!Maybe they are just changing to healthier maybe.I eat fried eggs with a slice of fat free cheese melted on top cooked in fat free Pam...I make a sandwich with wheat bread....so good.
ReplyDeleteI like waffles. Waffles are good.
ReplyDeleteGreen beans for breakfast? I like green beans, but they are not meant for breakfast..they aren't even appealing..
ReplyDeleteFruit for breakfast after fresh juiced carrot/apple/celery juice. Raw veggies with lunch and snacks. Organic or fresh made vegan soup with dulse or kelp noodles or baked potatoes with earth balance spread for lunch. Big salad with lots of raw veggies, mixed greens and spinach for supper. Snacks on gluten free crackers and hummus or veggie wrap with refried beans.
ReplyDeleteThe best and healthiest lifestyle that exists. This and staying active will guarantee weight lose if needed and a healthy body. I wouldn't go back for all the money in the world :-)
4 years vegan, mostly gluten-free and mostly raw and the healthiest I have been in probably my entire life.
My favorite egg white omelette with mushrooms spinach and onions sautéed with just a little bit of Swiss cheese
ReplyDeleteI like scrambled eggs, but green beans for breakfast....noooo! That one I've never heard of..but at least it's not tater tots and sausage...
ReplyDeleteToo restrictive, there is an abundance of food to eat. What is the point of saying you can not eat of all the other foods available? Does not seem very Christian to me, making up silly rules. I'll eat what ever I think is healthy, thanks anyway, not very inspired by this one.
ReplyDeleteThey might be on the paleo diet which is mainly protein, fruits, veggies and nuts. Eggs are actually very healthy for you ans have been proven to trim belly fat as well. I think the girls are doung great!
ReplyDeleteI'd eat what the Lord gives me for my daily bread. I am a Christian I try to daily say the Lord's prayer as commanded and I am justified by faith in Jesus's finished work on the cross, I am not made better by following legalistic eating rules made up by men or (wo)men.
ReplyDeleteProbably fruit loops cereal or pancakes. I am impressed that they can make it that long on such a strict diet! I CANT WAIT for the next season! It looks so good. You all are such good christian role models! I am also a christian AND homeschooled. Your family is such a good representation of the two beliefes. May God bless you!
ReplyDeleteI also like
ReplyDeleteChoc chip muffins
I Love choc. chip muffins...yum!
DeleteThey should check out the book Trim Healthy Mama. It is written by two sisters that teach healthy eating though their study of the Scriptures. It is a way of healthy eating for the rest of you life!
ReplyDeleteI understand what it is like to what to eat healthy, which it looks like that is what they are doing. They are eating a REAL food diet instead of an Standard America Diet. Real food instead of process food. Regarding grains, even though it is advertised as good for you, grains really not good for you as they can cause leaky gut. 100 years ago grains were always left to sprout (sprouted grains) before made into anything, making them easier to digest. Grains today does not have the same nutritional value as sprouted grains and many of times are GMO, which can cause problems as well.
ReplyDeleteThis diet is just strange.
ReplyDeleteOatmeal with dried cranberries and chopped pecans and just a slight sprinkle of cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteMy breakfast is normally cereal or a muffin. But sometimes I eat eggs or bacon and occasionally fruit.
ReplyDeleteJessa doesn't need to lose any more weight, her face is already looking way too thin in selfies these days. And Joy-Anna is way too young to be restricting calories. I can understand they may want to veer away from the ALDI and Tater Tot Casserole diets but this is a bit extreme.
ReplyDeleteI have scrambled eggs green beans for breakfast and its good. I lost 10 pounds already.
ReplyDeleteEggs actually do have a lot of nutrients to them. As for them being fried, that depends on what you fry them in. There are lots of great oils that are very good. We still need healthy fats in our diet. This low fat- non fat fad has not shown that it's a better alternative. It's all about good quality and balance. The stuff they are eating looks yummy, but I personally would prefer a little more variety and like other commenters have said, more greens. :)
ReplyDeleteIf you get eggland best eggs they have less cholesteral then reguler eggs do. Or get egg beaters they also have less cholesteral. And better for you.
ReplyDeleteI am sure the gals are trying this approach just to try it and will not sustain this type of nutrition plan indefinitely. I can almost guarantee that everyone who has responded on here has tried a "diet" at one point or another in their life.....this is not a big deal here,so please don't criticize!
ReplyDeleteCereal is banned in my house. Oatmeal properly soaked and prepared the night before, eggs with kale, zuchini, bell peppers, tomato fried in either coconut oil or buter, a glass of raw, organic full fat/cream milk from a grassfed jersey cow and we sometimes have chilli. Grainfree pancakes topped with frozen berries and greek style yoghurt is also on the menu. :-)
ReplyDeleteIs Jessa doing the food challenge so she can try on wedding dresses?
ReplyDelete\
For breakfast i love scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, toast with home made blueberry jelly, a fresh fruit of some sort and orange juice. Even thinking about it makes my mouth water. I also like my moms chocolate chocolate chip muffins.
ReplyDeleteI like either a parfait with yogurt, granola, and fruit asaĂ berries blended with fresh fruit and granola. It has protein, antioxidants, and vitamins. Green beans for breakfast? Day? They need fruit too.
ReplyDeleteWhat's this the Dr Seuss alternate diet? Personally I stick with the original green eggs and ham.
ReplyDeleteI'm even more concerned seeing the more recent post with more pictures from Central America. Jessa has perfect hair and make up in every picture. Standing next others also on the trip who looked fine but more lived in. The pressure must be overwhelming. She has been in the public eye for years.
ReplyDeleteThey should check out the Makers Diet by Jordan Rubin. Maybe this challenge will help the whole family to start eating better(more fruits, vegetables, less processed food, ect.) Its not about a diet, its about a lifestyle change. God bless
ReplyDeleteWhile it might not be the healthiest option, I think it's important to encourage them as they are trying to eat healthier. To the people saying they don't need to lose weight or go on a diet, it's never a bad thing to eat healthier if done in a way that isn't damaging to your body. They need encouragement to keep doing what they are doing instead of being criticized for what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteI am so confused why Jessa and Joy are doing a strict diet. Can you tell us why they are doing this?
ReplyDeleteSome of you people have way too much time on your hands to get all worked up about their choice of food. Hahaha.
ReplyDeleteIs this some variety of the Daniel diet? Both of these girls have perfect figures, ie the correct weight for their height. I really don't like to see young women doing a 'fad' diet, limiting certain foods completely. It can lead to worse dietary restrictions and eating disorders. A body 'cleanse' is a few days of fruit juice, not 3 wks of certain foods. And a 'fast' should never last more than 24 hours. Honestly, I disapprove of this diet.
ReplyDeleteCheerios or bran flakes with banana slices on top, whole wheat toast, and orange juice is a delicious breakfast. Also, a boiled egg, turkey bacon slices, wheat toast, and juice or low fat milk is nutritious too.
ReplyDeleteNot a healthy eating plan but neither is mine! Lol I eat honeycomb cereal & oj for breakfast...
ReplyDeleteGreen beans are unusual for breakfast but they're greens anyhow - so good for you! :)
ReplyDeleteJessa and Joy are on their own version of the Whole30 diet. I personally don't think that any of these meal options are ideal but to each their own.
ReplyDeleteK
I'm also curious about this diet....what's the point of it?? Not being critical, but I think we're all wondering....
ReplyDeleteI think it says food challenge not diet, suggests they're not doing it to loose weight. Lilly and Ellie could you clear this up?
ReplyDeleteI suppose it is much better for you than tator tot casserole :)
ReplyDeleteGreen beans for breakfast may sound funny to some people, but you know, if you think about it, you COULD eat ANYTHING for breakfast! :) It's just a matter of what you're used to.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite breakfast foods is some oven-"fried" potatoes that I make, with a smoothie of some sort.
BTW, green beans ARE better than chicken cacciatore for breakfast for 30 days straight! :) There is a real story behind that! :)

Duggar fan from Oklahoma
The best diet in the WORLD.....eat less move more
ReplyDelete...All this talk of food, now I'm hungry! :)
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, everyone! It doesn't say that's ALL they're eating. It looks delicious, and they can eat however they want! :)
ReplyDeleteThey may be reading Jen Hatmakers book "Seven", and they are on the food challenge part of the book.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand how some of you can make such negative comments, its just rude in my opinion. Weren't you ever taught if you cant say something nice don't say anything at all! Just because the Duggers are in the public spotlight doesn't give you the right to be so critical. Very disappointing people!
ReplyDeleteHands down, my favorite breakfast food is biscuits and (sausage) gravy. MMMMMMMMMM!
ReplyDeleteGreen beans and eggs are a very healthy and filling way to start the day. I also like a bowl of plain oatmeal with a drizzle of honey.
ReplyDeleteThese comments are hilarious! Who knew eating green beans would be so controversial? Or eggs? Thanks everyone for the laugh.
ReplyDeleteThey should check out the book Trim Healthy Mama by Pearl Barrett and Serene Allison!! :)
ReplyDeleteBTW fried eggs are VERY good for you, especially when fried in extra virgin coconut oil.
