Duggars Talk Relationships

The Duggars joined Nancy Redd on HuffPost Live this morning to discuss relationships, Growing Up Duggar, and season 8 of 19 Kids and Counting (video embedded below). Hear John-David's advice on treating women with respect, and find out how Ben and Jessa have set boundaries in their courtship.

"And John's available, by the way," says Jim Bob.

The Duggars also share their views on ObamaCare and how they afford health care for their large family.

  3. I wish Jessa would have talked more about courting instead of Jill since she is going through the process. Jessa seemed shy today! I think Josh is turning into a better public speaker then his dad! It felt like Josh is more in touch with the people and is living in 2014 and understands what is happening in the world(but still chooses to live by his own not the norm standards) then Jim Bob. I felt kind of bad that the little kids were dragged on the set (or could have been home doing school work), some of the questions were not appropriate for under 12's and the kids seemed bored and restless. I would have loved it just to be an older kids book tour, since it is their book and maybe Josh could have come along if they needed a chaperone.

  5. I don't usually make comments but please ~ this commentator was an embarrassment to her network. I think I could have done a better job of interviewing this special family and hopefully I would not have referenced myself in every other sentence. This young woman needs some more on-air training!!

  6. Seriously the Duggars get criticized if they don't bring their kids, and then they get criticized if they do! I thought it was a great interview overall. I do notice that Joy just always seems a little off. She seems to be out of place almost and I wonder at times if she might be a little "rebellious." Has anyone else noticed this, and also noticed how the only time she seems REALLY happy is when crazy, wordly cousin Amey is around??? I have just caught glimses of it here and there but I swear I am not imagining it!

  9. Anyone else notice that Mackynzie is wearing blue jean pants? Have Josh and Anna changed their view on girls wearing skirts?

  11. The Duggars are on Good Morning America tomorrow. The show runs from 7-9 AM, but check your local listings.

Also, note for those planning on attending the book signing in Camp Hill, PA on Wednesday, March 12 from 7-9 PM EST:
They will be passing out wristbands starting at 9 AM EST with numbers on them. This helps control the number of people. You must have a wristband to get into the book signing. However, I was told they will have plenty of wristbands and it is not expected to be sold out. I would recommend being there early just in case, though.

  13. I think this was AWESOME! I love seeing their family together, and it is wonderful that the younger ones are there listening and watching their older siblings. In addressing the comment that some of the questions may have been inappropriate for the youngest Duggars, I would like to point out that much of what our younger children see in society - even TV is inappropriate, even sports shows need to be censored. At least these comments are made in a healthy conversation.

  14. Jessa seemed so shy today! They all look beautiful…but I agree with an above user that I wish Jessa spoke more about her and Ben and their courtship process. Also….did anyone notice that Mackynzie is wearing pants and not a dress/skirt? I wonder if Josh and Anna are going to continue to let her wear pants?

  15. Nice video! The Duggars are all so well spoken! I wish the other girls would've spoke a bit but Jill did a great job answering questions. I agree that it may have been more of an adult conversation, but it was still nice to see them all. I hope Josiah is doing well!

  16. I actually love the host of this show. I've seen her host other things and she's just lovely. She asks good questions without being underhandedly disrespectful like I've seen other hosts do.

Yes, I think Joy seems uncomfortable almost all the time, and it makes me sad and i wonder if it is because she dosen't have any sisters around her age. When she was younger she maybe didn't thougt of that, because then she was just a child and the world seems just a happy place, but know when she is a teenager, her older sisters has all gone througt that time and her younger sisters are still young children, and the can't talk about them about all the questions she might have. She could talk the her older sisters about "teenage stuff" but she was to young when all the four older sisters, for exampel where learning the put on make up,, talking about boys alot and so on. She just have brothers in the same age around here, and I think that makes here lonely, and when "crazy" Amy is around, I think it is easierfor Joy to talk to her.

  20. If you look carefully Mackynzie is wearing a dress over the pants, but the dress is riding up. You can tell when she moves.

  21. My view of the hostess interviewer was more positive than that of poster # 6's. I actually spontaneously thought that interviewer did a really good job when I saw this show, which is the opposite of the thought # 6 expressed in this blog. I thought the interviewer was well prepared with her questions and used the longer format to delve into some interesting questions, that were sometimes even a bit edgy. Also the interviewer wrapped her words around her thoughts to capture her more complex ideas nicely. I think the Duggars agree to these interviews without much preparation and are willing to be put on the spot. Maybe the parents have given directions to the girls to let Jill pick up the bulk of the questions because she is certain to field the questions confidently (but I am guessing as to if or not they do that). Given the good will nature of the interview I do think the interviewer got a touch scrapy when she responded to Jim Bob's remark that even in Canada there are draw backs in the health care system that is supposedly free by say "Nothing in life is free" - then the hostess came back with the comment you are getting (a large number of children) in on your policy "free" - that was not quite in the spirit of a good will interview I do not think. I think that whole portion of the interview should not have been in this interview, it relates to a current political policy and was on for that reason. It was quite clear the hostess was supporting the current political policy and knew the Duggars opposed it. I think the Duggars should be given a chance to be thoughtful about some issues questions and not put on the spot, over all it was a good interview and I think the hostess deserves a favorable thumbs up.

  22. The younger children are fun to watch, Michael wanting to touch to microphone and Josh just holding it out of his reach and Michael looking at him wondering why, that was one of the cute things. I don't worry that these children should be in a classroom, life is a room too and they are learning soooo much just by being involved every step of the way!! I bet when they grow up they will say it was a lot of fun, and when they re-watch these videos the children will learn again and again lot about the important principles being discussed, that is a life lesson.

  23. The boys are growing up so fast and are so handsome. How can it be possible that every single child in that family is good looking. They are just as beautiful on the outside as in.What a truly blessed family, so nice, sweet, and kind they are. How on earth can anyone not like them is beyond me.Godbless you Duggars!

  24. This is one of the best interviews of the Duggar family I have seen. Very relaxed and more in depth than most interviews. Really enjoyed it!

I think that Josh is so good at being a public speaker because he has grown up in the public eye, given that cameras have followed him most of his life. I've heard that Jim Bob still quakes before every public speaking event, therefore I think it's quite amazing that he speaks to the public so much!

I haven't noticed this, but wonder if you have because Joy Anna has always been a tomboy, rough housing with all those boys in the middle. Now she has hit her teen years and seems to be hanging out with her older sisters more, wearing make-up and dressing nice.

  27. I think Joy is just a typical teen girl unsure of herself and will blossom into a wonderful adult like her older sisters. Josiah I believe is at Cadet Academy. Josh has only been in the spotlight since he turned 15. Josh is naturally outgoing.
