Learning to Write Like a Duggar

Josh and Anna Duggar, both homeschool graduates, plan to follow in their parents' footsteps and teach their kids at home. Mackynzie, not yet four years old, is learning to write the letters of the alphabet.

  3. To the first anonymous, She's not four yet so you could say she's ahead but at the same time they're are children, much like I was, who go to daycare/early learning programs at 3ish or younger where they do much of the same that she seems to be doing. In that route she's on track. Now if you want to compare to most other children who don't attend a formal school until 5 she could be more along, but that's not to say those kids don't know anything, it depends very much on their parents. Hope that helps and if anyone sees a flaw in my understandings then by all means tell me.

    1. I think is great that you plan to homeschool, I have with all of my kids for nine years. Please do not pass your grammar on though, your comment reads like is was posted by a fifth grader. I am a huge homeschool advocate, but feel that parents that do a poor job cast an unwelcome shadow on the lifestyle choice.

  6. Sounds like she is on track with most main stream day care kids.

  7. They quite obviously do intend for their children to follow in their footsteps, since all have weight issues already.

Wow, really? They are all 3 and under. My children did not start to thin out until they were between 5 and 8. They eat healthy foods and are very active (my children). My oldest wears slim fit with an adjustable waistband because he is so thin. I cannot answer for what Josh and Anna are feeding their children, but how dare you be so cruel to pick on the weight of very small children, which by the way looks completely normal to me. You either don't have any children or are looking to start something. In the latter case, you got it. I just wanted to point out your dim point of view in this matter.

  10. Anyone who thinks Josh and Anna's kids have a weight problem obviously never get out! There are a handful of kids out there who are actually seriously obese, and it is pretty obvious when you see them. The Duggar children are fine. As for her being "on track with learning", I take offense to that terminology. I have four children ages 9 mos to 11 years and there is such a broad range of normal. It seems like from birth, we are so busy worrying about our child being "ahead" or "the first" or "the best" compared to other children. They are children, not pets. Parenthood is a lifestyle and a commitment to loving and nurturing the gift from God that He gave you, not a hobby! Why not just love your kids the way they are, not constantly compare them to someone else's ideal? The goal is not to think "Wow, my kid is so ahead" because in the end, it usually evens out anyway! Why push? That said, Mackynzie looks to be ahead and if she's enjoying learning, that's great!

    1. Kids don't need to go to school to be around other kids and make friends. My children have never been to school and have lots of friends. We belong to a homeschool group made up of over 275 families. We do field trips with this group all the time and we meet up at local area parks possibly every day depending on schedule. My children also play soccer and are in 4h, so they interact with school kids as well. They have no problems carrying on a conversation with people of any age.
