Michelle: "We are open to the idea of adoption"

Jessa Duggar in Central America
The Duggars have been praying about the possibility of adopting a child (or children) and are eager to see what God has in store.

Jim Bob Duggar in Central America
"The kids are definitely pushing towards wanting us to open our home up to another child or more," Michelle Duggar told People Magazine in a recent interview. "They see how much we have been blessed with and how little so many children have and they want to share. We tell our children that would have to be something that is God's will for our family, and we will see if it is. Our children love children, and we all do."

  1. I think they should adopt because they bring good into the world and would treat these children like their own. Who ever they are they re really lucky to get parents like Jim Bob and Michelle!

  5. I think that is a great idea! There are so many children out there waiting for adoption and waiting to be loved. I should know I was waiting to be adopted, but because I was over 7 no one ever did adopt me. maybe consider adopting an older child who otherwise has very little chance of being adopted

  8. I hope that if they do adopt it's from the U.S.A. or Hispanic countries. There's so many children here at home that also need homes and I feel like a lot of people who adopt do so from other countries, however i don't know if this is true or not but i have heard that it's so much harder to adopt from here U.S.A. then it is from another country. but i rarely see anyone adopting from Hispanic countries as well, i always hear that people adopt from Asia,Africa,Russia, and so on, but rarely from the Hispanic countries. IMO...

Sadly, it's because it is cheaper to adopt a child from another country than it is to adopt here in the States.

It's so wrong to put a price on a child. Not to mention all the hoops you have to jump through.

  14. When I heard this, I was so happy. I absolutely love hearing when children get families of their own. Every child deserves a mother and father that will love them!

  15. Unlike others who are skeptic about the Duggars having so many kids, I am 100% for them adopting. They raise their kids in a good Christian enviornment and this would be so good for all the kids without homes. The Duggars are good with kids and now that Michelle will probably not be able to have any more kids, yet she desires more, I think that they should adopt.

  16. I think just being who The Lord leads you to be is best. We are supposed to be more like Christ. Remember, don't follow man. Sometimes people get to cought up in wanting to be just like someone else.

  17. Certainly, adopting is a very serious and personal decision. I feel they have been given plenty of children to parent, love and guide to become adults prepared to share the Lord with others. Is this new idea of adoption to help a child or a marketing tool? I am suspicious.

    1. No need to b suspicious, if u knew them, then u would know that marketing is the furthest thing from their mind, especially when children are involved.

Actually adopting through foster care (the American public adoption system) is not any harder than international. They are desperate for good families. (Unlike many countries reluctance in American adoption). And it does not cost any money (compared to thousands of dollars in international adoptions) in fact you receive money to help you care for your adopted children

  22. while the Duggars need to do what their hearts tell them to do, I hope that they consider adopting an American child from foster care and also maybe one who isn't a baby. There are so many in this country who need a home.

  23. In 2011 my family adopted and it has been so fun watching and helping our little one grow. The Duggars are sn amazing family. I would love to see them adopt.

  24. I agree with some other posts* please adopt from the USA

  25. I would like to see them adopt a child in America whose parents otherwise might consider abortion. It certainly is possible. What a promotion for Life that would be. Charity does begin at home!

I read that to adopt a child (without fostering (in the case of what my grandparents did back in the 60's)) costs ~35K, and that is without any type of government assistance after.

  29. The Lord adopted us into his family, including all of our flaws and loves of dearly despite of them. I think adoption is a wonderful thing to consider. There are so many children that need a home and the Duggars would make a wonderful and supportive family to any child. I really hope some child out there becomes lucky enough to call you 'mom and dad'. Prayers for your family as you seek God's direction!

  30. Eh I think it would be awkard. Nineteen duggar kids and then one Chinese girl. ? Wouldn't feel the same. And the girl/boy would feel so out of place.

    ReplyDelete
  31. No, just absolutely no. While I admire the Duggars for boldly sharing their faith, the last thing they need is another child. It is quite apparent that the older girls are doing the majority of the child rearing and to me, it seems like adopting a child would just cause more work for them when they should be out socializing with people their own age, going on dates and doing things that are more age appropriate than rearing their siblings.
It just seems like them discussing the possibility of adoption is more of a "Hey look at us" moment than a real commitment to bettering a child's life.
That is just my opinion, I'm sure others feel differently.

    1. Uhm your diluted go watch last seasons final episode on youtube make sure you see the end and then say the older girls do everything which is false. Yes older siblings help a lot but that's not unusual in large family but its not all on older girls. The girls havw made it clear as has jhon david they plan on courtship they don't want to date they want the 1 God has for them yes it could be Josh's influence that made them decide that but they still decided. And they get out plenty their is reason that as time has gone on they show less of 3 oldest whom are still at hime because jana, jhon david and Jill are doing things.

  32. I think it would be great for the Duggars to adopt, especially from a different country when young and older children, have less of a chance to grow up in a good enviroment, the Duggars could provide that! i am all for that!

  33. Ik vindt dit geen goed idee
De oudere kinderen moeten nu al de jongere broertjes en zusjes verzorgen
Hoe ver mag je gaan,er is ook een grens

  34. I think a child is a child is a child, no matter where u get them. We are all human, the country should not matter, would God discriminate the Geographics? Come on people, really!!!! Godspeed, Sincerely, Nat& Lin

  35. How could it not be God's Will for your family? As an adoptive mother of two sons and on the path to adopt again. I always ask. How could it not be God's will to adopt? He adopted us in Christ! Jolene

  36. If you think about it Jesus was adopted by Mary and Joseph. I think it would be great if the Duggers adopted their 20th child. It would help the child have a loving family and show others that adopt is a good thing to do for homeless children. Maybe then others would follow their lead and adopt children. In some places like Mexico parents name their children Jesus (the J is prenouned as a H), but that would be funny if their child was named Jesus. It does start with a J!
