Recap: "Busy Duggars" and "A Duggar on Her Own"
Tonight on 19 Kids and Counting...
"Busy Duggars"
- Michelle has converted one of the closets in the boys' room into a schoolroom for her youngest students. She explains the difficulties of teaching little ones, like Johannah, who are always on the move.
- "She's really good at reading," says Jackson of Johannah. The two have been buddies for years. "They've been at such a fun age, says Jim Bob. "I'm almost going to miss that stage."
- When the boys finish their schoolwork for the day, they often request to use their BB guns. Jill enjoys facilitating target practice.
- Jim Bob explains the importance of teaching gun safety to children, even for families that do not own guns. You never know when you will come across one, he says.
- Michelle stays at home with the little ones, while Grandma, Jim Bob, and the older kids head for the forest. After hiking a local trail and then continuing on to a woodsy, five-acre property owned by Grandma Duggar, the group ends the day with fishing at a pond that they also own.
- "I'm not a city girl, but I'm not a complete outdoors girl." says Jana.
- While Grandma calls fishing with her grand-kids a "catastrophe," she also says that it is loads of fun.
- Joy-Anna, who has her learner's permit, drives one of the Suburbans. "Probably the hardest part is not going too fast," admits the fourteen-year-old. "I speed a lot."
- Cousin Amy and the Duggar kids (even Josie) ask Grandma to put her chores on hold so that they can pamper her. The girls give her a facial and manicure while the boys massage her shoulders.
"A Duggar on Her Own"
- Anna takes Mackynzie and Michael to the local library for the first time. Mackynzie loves books so much that Anna is concerned her daughter will request to borrow the entire children's section.
- While at the library, Anna reads a book to a group of toddlers and moms. "It was definitely out of my comfort zone," says Anna.
- The entire family waves goodbye as Jana heads off to Chicago and then Michigan to minister with Journey to the Heart.
- "We were so excited about Jana becoming a journey leader," says Jim Bob. Knowing what an impact Journey to the Heart has had on their daughters' lives, he and Michelle were thrilled to hear that Jana would be using her gifts to lead other girls.
- On a beautiful day, Jim Bob takes his family on a bike ride. When they arrive at Dogwood Junction, a bike shop in Siloam Springs, to repair several of their bikes, they are surprised to find a fleet of four-wheel bikes waiting for them. Eager to being their ride, the Duggars divide into groups and hop on.
- Everyone quickly discovers that four-wheel bikes are not as easy as they look. "The first point where it stopped becoming fun was the first hill," reports Jeremiah.

Recap: Photos, Possums, and Popes
On tonight's episodes of 19
Kids and Counting...
"Smile and Say, Duggars!"
- The show opens as Josie belts out "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star."
- On Mother's Day, the Duggars head to Joplin for a fundraiser aimed at encouraging mothers affected by the 2011 Joplin tornado.
- As usual (rounding up 19 kids is no easy task), leaving the house on time is a struggle. "No matter how far in advance we plan, it seems like at the very end, everybody remembers 'Oh yeah, I forgot to eat!"' explains Jill.
- In Joplin, conference attendees have the opportunity to eat dinner with the Duggars. "They really feel like they're part of our lives when they watch the show," Michelle says of their fans.
- Next, the Duggars prepare for their 2012 photo shoot. Scott Enlow, the family's photographer of nine years, has chosen the color scheme: everyone in jeans with a mix of navy and light blue tops.
- Scott Enlow is in for a challenge: the little ones often deliberately look away from the camera, just to exercise their free will.
- Jim Bob compares photo shoots with the Duggars to capturing still shots of live worms.
- When it comes to individual portraits, the process is easier than expected. "Everything seemed to be going great until we got to Josie," says Jill.
- Michelle describes her youngest as a "fighter from the beginning" with a strong will. "She definitely has her ideas about what she wants to do, when she wants to do it," says the mom of 19.
- With Scott Enlow's incredible patience, everything works out. Click here to view the final photos.
- At home, the Duggar boys catch a possum in a clear, plastic bin and bring it to Jim Bob. Once the rest of the family has taken a peek, the boys are told to release their furry friend.
"Duggars Dinner Party"
- While in the NICU with Josie, Michelle bonded with Sarah Pope, also the mother of a preemie. When the Popes come over for dinner, Josie and Samuel become instant friends.
- Josh enlists his dad, several siblings, and Jonathan Hartono to move cars back to the location that he moved out of only months ago. (Jonathan and his sister, Jennifer, met John and Jana in Asia. They are now attending school in the United States, and the Duggars' house is their "home away from home.)
- Anna and Mackynzie whip up a few batches of cookies for the car-moving crew. "Mackynzie loves cookie dough, and I'm kind of right in there with her; it's good stuff," laughs Anna.
- Anna's favorite part about the car lot is the large playroom where she and the kids can hang out.

"All You Can Eat" and "Puppies, Properties & Patients"
On tonight's new episodes of 19 Kids and Counting...
"All You Can Eat"
Josh and Anna Update
- Mackynzie (almost three) and Michael (age one) are "at the age where they can kind of play together," says Anna.
- For those wondering about diapers: Josh and Anna used cloth for Mackynzie, but life can get pretty hectic with two kids, so the couple has switched back to disposables for Michael.
- Mackynzie was nursed for the first nine months of her life, while Michael started eating solids a couple months earlier than his sister. Anna occasionally uses premade baby food, but she, and Michael, prefer homemade.
- "I love being a stay-at-home mom," says Anna. While she is happy for her peers, many of whom are finishing college and launching their careers, the twenty-four-year-old is content being a wife and mommy.
- Are there more Duggar grandkids in the future? Not yet, although Mackynzie wants more babies, and Anna is secretly hoping for twins.
- Anna takes Mackynzie, who is starting to exert her own opinion, and Michael to a local consignment shop to buy clothes. At this particular store, parents trade in shoes and outfits that their kids have outgrown in exchange for store credit.
- Anna returns home with a pile of clothing, for which she paid less than one third of retail.
Duggar-Style Snacking
- Snack time at the Duggars' is no simple task, and the kids are constantly hungry. According to Jeremiah, they eat about nine meals each day.
Grandma Duggar
- When the camera crew interviews Grandma, what does she say? "I don't have time to be lonely, not with the Duggars. They show me a lot of respect, and we all just get along so well."
- According to Michelle, "Grandma Duggar is like the matriarch of the family." Constantly in the laundry room, she does seventy to eighty loads each week.
- For a special treat, Jill and Joseph plan a night out for Grandma. Dressed in fancy clothes, the two Duggars escort her to a widows' banquet at a nearby church.
Josie Update
- Josie, who associates the doctor's office with pain, has reached a milestone. "Our doctors recommend that she receive RSV shots for the first two years of her life," says Michelle. In this episode, Josie has her last round of these shots.
- James, "the fun buddy," accompanies his youngest sister to the pediatrician and does his best to keep her distracted.
- In the examination room, Michelle is elated to hear that Josie weighs 23 pounds. But Josie is far from thrilled. Even before the nurse brings out the shots, she is clinging to Michelle for dear life.
"Puppies, Properties &
Patients"
- With Josh busy at the car lot and Anna helping him occasionally, Mackynzie and Michael have been spending time with Grandma and Grandpa and their aunts and uncles.
- In addition to their cat, Milky Way, the Duggars are dog-sitting for friends. Michelle catches the kids feeding the pups cheese and scrambled eggs. The outcome? The dogs vomit so frequently that Michelle can hardly keep up with the cleaning.
- Meanwhile, Mackynzie makes Josie cry. After caring for Josie, whose hypersensitive gag reflex causes her to throw up if she cries to hard, Michelle lovingly corrects Mackynzie's behavior.
- Jim Bob and the older kids--armed with gloves, masks, and shovels--head over to a house they recently purchased to fix 'er up. Jim Bob's goal is to transform it into a rental property or eventually hand it over to one of his kids.
- Nearby, John-David is doing contract work for a bank on a different property. If he cleans it up adequately, the bank will give him another piece of land.
- Later, Michelle, Jill, and Joy wrangle up several of the little ones and head to the dentist. Jill, who loves spending time with her siblings, jumps at any opportunity to break away from other duties and help with the kids.
- Jennifer does well at the dentist, but Josie isn't too pleased with the whole ordeal.
