On another note, Gil and Kelly Bates (dear friends of the Duggars) and their brood of nineteen are gearing up for the premiere of their new TLC series, United Bates of America, on Monday at 9PM EST/8PM CST. The entire family traveled to New York City and were featured on Good Morning America and ABC Nightline (videos below).
What similarities and differences do you see between the Duggars and Bates?
the similarities of Duggars and Bates they both have 19 kids, both familes homeschools their children , both familes have a child name jackson and josie, both of familes kids wants a big family and both familes both have been to new york. and the Differnces of the Duggars and Bates, the duggars have two sets of twins and the bates dont have any twins, The Bates named their children with all different letter names and the Duggars named all their children with all "J" names, The Bates are from Tennessee and the Duggars are from Arkansas.

ReplyDeleteI was shocked that no Bates had even heard of Justin Bieber of Kim Kardashian (BUT THEY'RE NOT MISSING OUT ON ANYTHING!!!) ;-) or even star wars. They seem like a nice family. =) I did notice one little girl (front row) in the Bates' family didn't raise her hand when asked if she wanted another sibling. :0 :)
I wonder if the Duggar's have heard of Bieber, KK, or Star Wars???

Both families seem to genuinely love being together. They both enjoy singing and playing music, but the Bates' music tends to be more southern bluegrass. The Bates tend to match their clothing more, and the Bates have more girls, while the Duggars have more boys. All of the kids seem motivated and well-behaved. Both families seem to organize their home in similar ways. As far as homeschool and college go, it seems like the Bates use more traditional curricula, while the Duggars favor computer/online courses.
ReplyDeleteHere's one difference: the Richard had two sets of twins but I believe Mrs. Bates had no twins.
ReplyDeleteThe Bates style is getting more modern (but remember, the Duggars were very out of touch early on as well). Since they like bluegrass so much, I wonder if they do any kind of dancing in their family. Guess we'll find out. Their values are pretty similar, but Gil and his boys work for a living, whereas Jim Bob is a landlord for a living. Other than that, I see no real differences yet, but I'm sure in the next few weeks I will.

the bates children are very talented erin has a very good voice. they need to stop wearing matching clothing. those colors on the boys were awful.

I like how the Duggar girls dress, fix their hair, and just THEIR style. =) The Bates are just more towards the southern and rustic style of living. It even shows in their music. Does anyone know if the Duggars wear earings?!

ReplyDeleteThe Bates family plays more bluegrass music, while the Duggars focus more on Classical. Both families sing and play Christian Southern gospel music. There are so many more similarities than differences, and that is one of the reasons why they are such good and close friends. (The Duggars have commented on that very thing in the past.) An observation regarding the Bates dressing alike: this is the first time I've ever seen them dress so much alike. If you are a long-time viewer of the Duggars and recall episodes with the Bates family in them, they don't usually dress this much alike (ie. in color). I am looking forward to seeing the Bates and the Duggars both on TV again!

ReplyDeleteI love the Bates family! I love their simple life and country style. The Duggars have seemed to evolve over time, not just with the way they dress, but other stuff as well. (not that dressing more modern isn't good, but rather just changing in general. I don't know if it's the show or what, but even Josh & Anna, who are all over social media now. It's just not quite the same. Even though there's lots of similarities between the two families, there's just something different about the Bates I will enjoy watching!!
ReplyDeleteFor those of you saying that the Duggars are more modern or have changed, this has obviously been largely due to fame (and dare I say money!) and increased exposure to the world. Let's check on the Bates in a few years (if their show lasts that long which I doubt) and you will see the exact same kind of changes.

The Bates have a Southern Baptist like chapel where they sing and The Duggars have home churches! They both believe in family and love! They both have large families they both don't watch TV! They both dress modestly and go to thrift stores! They both believe in courtship! They are both great families!
ReplyDeleteThe Bates and Duggars do have similar values and faith; however, the Bates appear more humble and upbeat! Gil has great energy and its easy to see Kelly's love for her family. I think as a family they have a more fun attitude; the Duggars seem more serious.

It is unrealistic to think certain thoughts do not pass through these kids' minds. I think as long as they know looks are not the most important thing, 'thought shaming' is unnecessary. Considering a person attractive isn't lust.Even crushes are considered wrong by them.

They may not be 'missing anything'but these kid have been kept from mainstream society.
I couldn't stand to read the negativity on the TLC website and was so happy to find your blog. I used to love reading it because you would moderate out these negative comments that were left by people who are very obviously not fans of the Duggar family or of Christians in general.
ReplyDeleteI know that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but truthfully, I miss the days when the general rule of thumb was--"if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". I sincerely wish that more folks would adhere to that.
The television has a whole bunch of channels available and if you don't like watching a particular show, then don't! Or better yet, turn the tv off altogether and take a walk.
I personally don't need to read these "anonymous" negative comments!

I have just fell in love with watching The Bates family. It is such a refreshing change from the Duggars. With the Bates kids, I get to actually see their personalities, they seem real, and yes very humble. I like that although the older kids still live at home, they are allowed to attend college in person, not just online. I just love watching them and can't wait to watch more.
