"I Will Carry You" by Selah

The song "I will Carry You" by Selah has helped Michelle cope with the pain of her miscarriage. (YouTube video and lyrics below.)

Lyrics:

There were photographs I wanted to take
Things I wanted to show you
Sing sweet lullabies, wipe your teary eyes
Who could love you like this?

People say that I am brave but I'm not
Truth is I'm barely hanging on
But there's a greater story
Written long before me
Because He loves you like this

[Chorus]
I will carry you
While your heart beats here
Long beyond the empty cradle
Through the coming years
I will carry you
All my life
And I will praise the One Who's chosen me
To carry you

Such a short time
Such a long road
All this madness
But I know
That the silence
Has brought me to His voice
And He says ...

I've shown her photographs of time beginning
Walked her through the parted seas
Angel lullabies, no more teary eyes
Who could love her like this?

[Chorus]

  2. This song was also of great comfort to me when I miscarried 3 years ago. If you take the time, you can read the story that is behind this song. The lead singer of Selah went through a very sad experience with his family. His wife was pregnant and they found out that their baby wouldn't survive. They chose to still keep the pregnancy, and this song is from that experience. They have a book out with the same name, I believe. Angie Smith (the mother) also has a blog, and she speaks at Women of Faith conferences.

  19. To Michelle & Jim Bob, I was so touched that at this time of such loss that you chose to invite us in to share your grief rather than to push everyone away. I am in awe of the strength you showed. The strength of your faith in our Father, and that all things happen for good. You have touched my heart in so many ways. I pray that each and every day your sorrow will lessen. I know that it will never go away. Thank you for sharing your life with us (both on TV and at speaking engagements). I had the privilege to hear/see you speak when you came to Kentucky. You touched my heart then and you continue to touch it every day. Blessings, Nancye in Kentucky

  20. I am so glad I watched this episode - I felt so touched by this song I started looking for it. Then I read the story behind it. They are amazing people to have shared the love for their child. Its terrible to loose a child (1995 for us), but this song still touched me. Time never lets you forget, you always remember how old they would be.

  23. I have lost 3 premature babies. Although it has been 23 years and 12 for the twins it its still painful. This song is very comforting. I know I will hold my babies again someday. I was given a choice to abort but we choose to carry then as long as possible. I have no regrets and when it seems dark He always provides encouragement through a song His word. So thankful fir the tone we had.

  24. 05th December 2013 We lost our twins at 19.5wks. Boys that we named Jason & Christopher. I searched for a song to express my grief. This is it. Thankyou so very much that your pain can be such a 'healing' to others.

  25. I played this at the funeral of my first grandchild who was full term and we were told would be still born. I was in fall apart mode until I actually listened to the word. When someone approaches me with the question, "What was that song you played at Sarah's funeral? I need it for a friend/family member" My heart sinks and I send my prayers up to God for comfort. God Bless.
