Duggar Recipe: Oatmeal Cookies

These cookies are a Duggar family favorite, and we can see why! We recommend adding the chocolate chips. Be sure to taste the dough before baking.

  3. I can totally understand why this recipe is a Duggar favorite. It calls for a cup of butter.

  4. I could not in all good conscience give anyone something I made out of a cup of butter and 2 cups of sugar. I applaud the 3 cups of oatmeal, but the 2 cups of flour are probably white flour. Why don't one of the Duggar "older ones" (and I question the age demarc of when they are "younger ones" and "older ones," take nutrition classes since Michelle doesn't cook? Yes, this Mother of the Year doesn't cook.

  5. I love oatmeal cookies. This recipe looks so easy to make and it's great that uses brown sugar. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I make this recipe using part Splenda as well as reduced fat baking sticks in place of butter and they are still delicious. I have also cut the recipe in half and made bar cookies in a 9x13, baking for about 22 minutes.

  7. Hi Lily and Ellie,
There was a video clip on the TLC website of the Duggars having a practice tornado drill.
Do you know the link to that clip?

  8. Oh, please do remove the recommendation of tasting the dough before baking. You should NEVER eat anything with raw eggs!!! It makes me nervous every time I see the Duggars, who I love!!!, do this, too!

    Hi Bayley,

Here's the link to the disaster drill video: http://tlc.discovery.com/videos/19-kids-and-counting-duggar-disaster-drill.html.

    Have a great weekend,

  10. Everything in moderation. Reduced fat baking sticks and Splenda likely have far more chemicals doing bad things to us than eating cookies baked with real butter and sugar in moderation. I doubt the Duggars eat these everyday - and I would have no problem serving these to my family every now and then if they liked them. They sound good!

  12. Annon march 2 @2:05 am. Actually Michelle does cook. infact she does so in more than one episode of the show. The episode where the kids swap jurisdictions comes to mind. She does do some of the cooking, but she shares the responsibility with the older girls.
And having something like that as a fun treat every now and then does not hurt. If you don't like the ingrediants, use healthier alternatives. I believe that the girls are given more kitchen responsibilities around age 11. up till then they are under training from Michelle and the other Girls. And if you cant give cookies like these to someone in good conscience then, don't. No one is forcing you to. Now go munch on that carrot stick and feel good about yourself. (Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but im good at it. lol)

  13. I've actually made these cookies and they're great! I added the chocolate chips since I usually don't like plain oatmeal cookies, and, really good! I make lots of cookies for events, and believe it or not, there are a lot of cookie recipes that call for a cup of butter for the standard creaming of the butter and sugar step. Anyway, as stated, everything in moderation.

  14. We all know that it's not wise to try the dough but i'd say that most of us do as long as it's a little bit and not all the time I am sure it's fine. Real butter is better than anything else. Most cookie recipes call for the butter to be creamed with the sugar. Michelle does cook but not as much as she'd probably like to she's fortunate to have the older girls to help so she has more time to train the younger ones.

  15. I don't understand the criticism....none of their kids are obese. They all look healthy. Having cookies is fine. Plus with that many kids to share with it's not like they're eating the whole batch by themselves, lol :) Goodness!

  16. Totally agreed Annonymous March 3 @3:11 Can't understand what the fuss is about. Its like Krispe Kream doughnuts. I love them, but i know they arent good for me, so my family only buys them maybe once a year to 18 months if we are lucky. It would be the same with these cookies. I like my kids to eat helthy. But never alowing them to have anything "special" is ridiculous. It won't kill them. Just make sure they brush their teeth as soon as they have eaten them.
