Recap: "Josh & Anna Check-In" and "40 Kids, Oh My!"

On tonight's new episodes of 19 Kids and Counting...

"Josh & Anna Check-In"
  • According to Josh, "Michael is...super relaxed." Anna says he takes after Dad.
  • Both Mackynzie and Michael are currently in diapers, but Mackynzie is on the road to potty training. "The motto around our house is 'If you see a water puddle, it might not be a water puddle,'" jokes Josh.
  • Although Josh encourages his wife not to feel compelled to use cloth diapers all the time, Anna can't help but feel guilty when putting her children in disposables.
  • Anna plans to homeschool her children and has begun teaching Mackynzie the basics (shapes, letters, etc).
  • The flexibility of being his own boss allows Josh to spend mornings with his family. He often takes out his violin and has Mackynzie play along on her pretend instrument.
  • At the car lot, business is slow. After opening his first lot five years ago, Josh felt the need to expand and leased a second location. Shortly after, the bank forced him to leave the newly acquired property, and the entire family banded together to move over fifty cars to the Taco Lot (Shown on "Duggars in the Zone"). The bank has recently given Josh the opportunity to purchase the original second location for a lower price than he had previously offered, so it's time to move again!
  • Mackynzie has her hair cut for the first time at a local cosmetology school. While a friend of Anna's trims the two-year-old's hair, Mom keeps her daughter entertained with candy and iPhone games.
  • Later, Anna takes her two children--as well as Johannah, Jennifer, and Jordyn--to a play park and experiences life with five little ones. "It was a little...stressful," explains Anna. "I would love to have a large family if we're able, but...I'm glad it takes at least nine months for each child. That way I can slowly work into this."
"40 Kids, Oh My!"
  •  Forty: that's how many kids are present when the Vanderhoffs come to visit. The Vanderhoffs have a total of twenty-one children; nine are biological and the rest adopted. Several have special needs. The family is bunking with the Duggars while they close on a house nearby.
  • A typical Sunday at the Duggars' home church goes like this: The service opens with hymns, includes a message and prayer, and culminates with a potluck. The little ones do not usually make it through the entire message, so Michelle takes them to the toy room to expend their energy.
  • Michelle heads to Little Rock with Jana, Josie, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, and Jason. The highlight of the mini vacation is spending time with Cindy, Michelle's best friend of 39 years. As kids, the girls did everything together. From cheer-leading camp to RV trips, the two were inseparable. To this day, they talk and text daily.
  • While in Little Rock, Michelle speaks to a group of mothers at Fellowship Bible Church. According to the mom of many, the Duggars receive enough speaking engagement requests to be busy every day of the year. They accept only a small number because family comes first.
  • Back in Tontitown, Jim Bob teaches Justin and James to bargain at a local pawn shop. Their purchase? A ride-on Jeep for Justin's ninth birthday.
  • Justin celebrates his special day with Hudson Vanderhoff--who is turning twenty--thirty pizzas, and a massive cake.

Watch the Duggars help the Vanderhoffs move into their new home:

      8. Hi Lily and Ellie!
        I noticed a mistake.
You said that Jim Bob taught Justin and Jason how to bargain for items at a local pawn shop.
It was actually Justin and James.

      11. Hi Anonymous (at 9:46 PM),

Right now, the only way to watch the newest episodes is by purchasing them on iTunes or Amazon. They are usually uploaded to YouTube several weeks after they air, but sometimes sooner. We post the links on our Watch Full Episodes page (http://duggarsblog.blogspot.com/p/new-feature-watch-full-episodes.html) as soon as they are available.

      13. Hi PenthouseSuite1213,

One of the new episodes scheduled for next week is called "Music with the Duggars." The summary is as follows:

"The Duggars are heading to Branson, MO for a speaking engagement and musical performance. We'll also catch up with Cousin Amy and learn more about her budding music career. And later, everyone is in the audience when Cousin Amy performs live onstage!"

That could be the episode that you are referring to; you will just have to wait and see. :)

      15. Lily and Ellie,
I was taking a look at your "Showtimes" page, and I believe you messed up the schedule. On March 6 on TLC's show listings it says at 9PM that it will be the episode Duggars in Space. Take a look here:http://tlc.discovery.com/tv-schedules/daily.html?date=20120306.066

Just wanted to inform you! God bless you guys!

      17. Hi Anonymous (at 1:03 PM),

We did not make a mistake. TLC was originally going to air an episode called "Swerve and Serve" in that time slot. The network altered the schedule this morning, deciding instead to air "Duggars in Space."

      18. Hi Amanda,

Michelle did have a miscarriage back in December. "19 Kids and Counting" episodes are filmed a few months before being aired. "TV time" has not caught up with real time.

        Thanks for reading!

      21. I wonder if Hudson VanderHoff might be a potential hubby for one of the older girls? I hope so, he looked so nice and now he is moving to Arkansas, so still near the family.

What is the pedal toy the kids play on in the house? My autistic identical grandsons would enjoy this-never learned to ride trike and are anxious of bikes.

        Hi Mmmbradleyhome4019,

We're not sure what toy you're referring to, but if you Google "pedal toy" or visit your local toy store, you should be able to find something.

        Have a wonderful week,
        Lily and Ellie

      26. With all the traveling they did before and after Michaael's birth, I'm sure that Anna must have used disposable diapers when they were on the road. i can not imagine her using cloth diapers and running to a laundromat to wash. All the traveling also probably delayed Mckenyzie's potty training. There will probably be more road trips before Michael turns one. Maybe Anna could cut something else out-like paper plates. Maybe they might cut back on traveling so Josh can concentrate on his car lot.

      29. I found it very moving to see you take in the family with special needs children. I think at this time in your lives to perhaps think of adopting a special needs child. The love that is in your home will allow the child to blossom .All children are gifts from god and I think you will do a great job!

      31. We love this. Our family is so encouraged by this family and now watching their friends with an even bigger family, taking care of their own children and other children with special needs. What an amazing testimony! ALL children are a blessing. Love, love, love it.

      32. I hope business picks up at Josh's car lot(s). Its such a tough economy. Will pray for him and his employees!
Enjoyed catching up with Anna and Josh. Can remember keeping up with 6 little ones at the park! Anna has wonderful patience.
I just love the fellowship the Duggars enjoy with the members of their church after Sunday services.
Thanks Lily and Ellie is it so nice to read a blog about the Duggars that isn't cruel or judgememtal.

      34. @AnonymousBecause they're not environmentally friendly. They fill up our landfills very quickly whereas re-usable diapers are washed and there's nothing to throw away. Disposables are also more expensive because you have to keep buying them all the time. With re-usables you only have to spend about $100-$200 for a set you can use for years and years.
