Yesterday, we posted photos of the Duggars' epic, February 2011 snow day. After an exhausting afternoon of sledding and igloo building, the Duggars head inside for...more snow?
Snow ice cream is a Duggar family tradition. (Almost as popular as tater tot casserole!) With a reputation like that, it has to be good!
Snow Ice Cream
Ingredients:
- 1-1/2 to 2 cups sugar, to taste
- 1 teaspoon imitation vanilla or 1/2 teaspoon real vanilla
- 1 quart heavy whipping cream or half-and-half
- 6 quarts clean, fresh snow (fluffy, not packed)
Directions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, vanilla, and whipping cream.
- Add snow, 2 cups at a time.
- Stir until mixture is ice cream consistency.
*This recipe is found on page 160 of the Duggars' first book, "20 and Counting."

This is delicious! Growing up, my sisters and I made this several times. Definitely something I plan to do with my own children some day :)
ReplyDeleteI made it last year when we had more snow......it's awesome! Oh, and those who need to watch their weight/calories/cholesterol, etc, it DOES work just as well with milk instead of cream. And add whatever you like for flavoring; I've used cocoa to make chocolate, I've used banana mush, and I've used fresh or frozen berries.(well, at this time of year, mostly frozen) Any other ideas, please share.
ReplyDeleteOhhh YUMMM!!! Have to try!!
ReplyDeleteI would love to make this if we ever get snow! It is expected to hit 65 today in St. Louis!I feel like we skipped winter and moved right on to spring! LOL
