ReplyDeleteI think some of the meanings are a bit of a stretch. For example: Jackson means son of Jack. Jack is the diminutive of John, and John means God is Gracious. But it's three steps removed from the actual name: Jackson.

Josie has to go back three times as well: Josie is short for Josephine, which is the female version of Joseph which means "God will add"

ReplyDeleteMacKenzie, in the Scottish form, means son of Coinneach (Scottish version of Kenneth). Coinneach comes from the Scots gaelic word 'caoin' meaning handsome. Technically then, MacKenzie means son of the handsome one.
I guess when you give the name to a girl you can say it means fair/attractive but it gives me (Australian of Scottish descent who speaks gaelic) a giggle everytime I hear the name.
The pastor's granddaughter had a baby and named her Kenzie. When she was dedicated he said it mentioned decedent of a handsome man. The live in Canada.

I wonder if that was a 2nd trimester loss like Jubilee or an early 1st trimester loss? Did they have to bury him? How did they know he was a boy? I'm just curious because I have followed the Duggars from the beginning of their tv career when it started with "14 Kids and Counting" and have read their books, etc and have never heard them mention naming the 1st baby they miscarried. I just took it as it was an early loss at maybe 6-8wks or so. Does anyone have more information on this?

My name is Rebekah, and most places will say it means "tied knot" or "snare." However, when I did some extensive research on it, it specifically refers to a knot in a rope meant that was tied to animals. The name is a reference to the fact that those knots were practically unbreakable by the animal, therefore a more accurate definition/meaning would be "steadfast" or "unbreakable." I personally like the "steadfast" meaning best. :-)
