Statement from Jim Bob Duggar

Here is a statement from Jim Bob Duggar regarding the miscarriage of their 20th child:

"Earlier today at a routine doctor's appointment, Michelle and I received the sad news that we lost the baby. Michelle is resting comfortably at home with the support of the entire family. We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, but ask for privacy during this difficult time."

When they find out the gender, the family will choose a name and then conduct a funeral service. The last time Michelle miscarried was after the arrival of Josh and before twins Jana and John-David were born.

The mother of 19 was in her second trimester and looking forward to the arrival of Duggar baby #20 in April. If you have ever lost a child, you understand the sorrow that the family is feeling. Please keep them in your prayers.

  1. I am so sad for Michelle. It's hard to have that happen. I found out we had lost a baby at 17 weeks when the doctor found no heartbeat. I know how to pray for her since I went through the same thing. Our family will pray for them.

  9. I am sincerely sorry for your loss, your family is amazing and I know the love you all share for each other will help you through this time of great sorrow. God has his plan as you know and this is a part maybe you'll never understand, I always say when God decides something, and I don't get it, it's just not my day to know the reason why. He will help you through this as he has always had his arms around you and your family. Blessings to you all.

  16. VERY difficult time...in my prayers. I couldn't think of a better way to show the love for this baby then to give him or her a name as a part of the family, and to have a memorial service. Praying for comfort and peace.

  17. I'm so sorry for their loss. I have lost a baby at 18 weeks early this year and I know Michelle was around that time because I am now pregnant after my loss and am due in April, like she was.

    I am praying for the family and for the little angel who passed away. No one should endure a miscarriage, especially a late loss like this.

  37. I am sorry to hear about your loss and you are in my prayers.

    But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
    Psalm 39:7

    I have had this hymn in my mind since monday and have been singing it constantly throughout the day...

    The love of God is greater far
    Than tongue or pen can ever tell.
    It goes beyond the highest star
    And reaches to the lowest hell.
    The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
    God gave His Son to win;
    His erring child He reconciled
    And pardoned from his sin.

    O love of God, how rich and pure!
    How measureless and strong!
    It shall forevermore endure
    The saints' and angels' song.

    When hoary time shall pass away,
    And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall;
    When men who here refuse to pray,
    On rocks and hills and mountains call;
    God's love, so sure, shall still endure,
    All measureless and strong;
    Redeeming grace to Adam's race—
    The saints' and angels' song.

    Could we with ink the ocean fill,
    And were the skies of parchment made;
    Were every stalk on earth a quill,
    And every man a scribe by trade;
    To write the love of God above
    Would drain the ocean dry;
    Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
    Though stretched from sky to sky.

    Hope that is of encouragement during this difficult time. The Love of God surpasses all, he has a plan and a purpose for all situations even when we cannot see it.

    God Bless you all.

  48. Well said-

    It's a mental illness to keep wanting more kids when you have 20. Really, please just stop it's sickening not wholesome. Only a few of her kids were actually mothered, the rest were kids raised by other kids robbing them of their childhoods

  57. Dear Michelle and Jim Bob,

    I too have experienced a 2nd trimester loss. At a routine ultrasound at 20 weeks and 5 days of pregnancy there was no heartbeat. I delivered my son Liam at the hospital and we had a memorial service for him. It has been two years and God has given me a peace. I know I will see him in heaven again. God is good. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this very difficult time.

    Love,

  62. I'm very sorry for the family for this loss. I pray that they will not listen to the voices of the world calling judgment on whether or not to continue giving God sovereignty over their family. Their attitude and their calm through this time is a true witness and I pray the Lord will continue to bless them with the ministry of childbearing or the ministry of the next stage after that, whichever the Lord chooses for them. They are open to the Lord's choices for them and that is a real blessing to see and hear. Thank you, Family Duggar, for being consistent even in your grief. You are a beautiful family!

    I wrote a prayer for the Duggars during this difficult time:
    "God who gives and takes away, please comfort Michelle and Jim Bob and the. Entire Duggar  family in the loss of their baby. Hold Michelle in Your loving arms, let her know that she is loved, and be with her and all who love her on this journey through darkness seeking light. Amen."
    I don't know if you want to post it or not. Please feel free to post it if you choose.

  65. I am so very sorry for your loss.

    We went in for an NT scan at 11 weeks in July and learned that our baby had died about two weeks prior. After seeing and hearing such a strong and healthy heartbeat just weeks before, to say that we were devastated does not even begin to describe such a loss.

    Thinking of you and your family.

    My heart breaks for your family. I lost my twins born at 24 weeks in 2008, and was overjoyed to watch Josie thrive and do so well. She is a miracle. To have you all experience loosing a child after going through so much makes me ache for you all. Michelle, you are a wonderful mother. I know your faith will guide you through this pain. Sadly, for me it rocked me so much I am still slowly working my way back to God. Somehow even through that, I know Ethan & Hope (my twins I lost) are together, and I will meet them again.

    My heart goes out to you.

  74. Hello, My name is Kelsey Wallace, and I am going to Liberty University to become a missionary. In Job 1, God tells us the Lord gives and the Lord takes away. He doesn't harm the people, he just thinks they are to perfect to live on earth. An example is Enoch. God took him from the face of the earth, not to cause pain, but because he was to perfect to live on earth. And even though you were only earthly parents for a short while, you were still part of this baby's life. As for speaking of a miscarriage, I don't know much. I only have two siblings, Courtney and Cameron. But, life without them would change my whole life drastically. I feel you pain, but I am also joyful, because I know this baby is in Heaven with Him. Your baby is sitting on His lap. Rejoice!!
