Can you imagine traveling with over 700 pounds of luggage? And that's just checked baggage! When the Duggars embarked on their three-week journey overseas, they filled the belly of the airplane with a whopping 24 bags. Inside those bags were 260 outfits, 78 pairs of shoes, 70 baby bottles, and 40 hair bows (plus three strollers and four car seats).
When traveling by air or by car, how many bags does your family usually pack?

1 bag for every 2 people in our family is pretty typical.
ReplyDeletethe five of us use 3 to 5 duffel bags. We also use numerous little bags. Enough to fill the back of an Astro van.
ReplyDeleteFor our 7 we have one checked bag and six carry- ons. We do not pack extra shoes unless they are fli-flops. Everyone gets 3 packed out fits whether the trip is 3 days or 3 weeks. When we run out we do laundry. I hate shlepping bags.
ReplyDeleteI don't go on trips that often with my family anymore since we don't live in the same place anymore but when Dad took the us kids on a trip back in the day we would bring five to eight bags on a trip not including carrying bags.
ReplyDeleteour family of four takes 4 checked bags (3 with clothes and one with presents/ski clothes --we only fly to DC for Christmas every other year). We each take a check on with fun stuff/school stuff in it. If we drive it is one bag each. the rules is 5 days of clothes(if over 3 days of travel -- other wise one for each day and a spare) then we wash.
ReplyDeleteWe're heading to China for 3 weeks sometime in the next few months. We absolutely will take the maximum carry-on per person and take 1 checked bag (with supplies for our two Chinese blessings that will be returning with us). We plan to take minimal clothing (4-5 outfits per person and just wash them while there).
ReplyDeleteIn the US we travel with one 18-21" rollaboard each plus a small backpack or computer bag each, regardless of the length of our trip. Our last trip was 7 weeks :-)
ReplyDeleteFor foreign travel we'll pack 1 suitcase for every two people because the allowable carry-on sizes on international flights are typically smaller.
We just went on a trip and we packed 4-5 TUBS. We saw the idea on the 19 Kids and Counting. So we did it.
ReplyDeleteMy family moved with 2 adults, 1 homeschooling child and one baby to china, and had 16 checked bags.
ReplyDeleteI just read in Candy Spelling's book that when her family of 4 went to Europe, they took 52 bags!! Our family takes one checked bag per person and one carry on per person.
ReplyDeleteUsually either a banana box or a duffel bag each if driving. If flying, 1 carry on,purse and 1 suitcase to go in the hold.
ReplyDeleteFor the 9 people in our family, we usually have atleast one or two bags each. But it really depends on where we are going or how long we will be gone for
ReplyDeleteProbably 1 small bag for each person and then three other large bags/ suitcases !
ReplyDeletei hope i can see you guys in spangedale arkansa
ReplyDeleteThis has nothing to do with the subject. I just wanted to post that I had been watching the show forever. I also have been keeping up with the new one. It's sad how people scrutinize others without being in their shoes. Despite all the negativity I still admire your family for the faith and strength that you all have. Keep being blessed.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad and stepmom will me coming to get me at the end of the month and I am gonna visit them in Arizona (I live in Virginia) and I have special needs including autism which includes attachiveness, I have to be prepeared. I plan ti stay for about 2 months and am not a light packer as it is. My Dad and stepmom will fit in 1 suitcase but they are gonna spread out into 2 or 3 and/or just bring empty extra suitcases so that when they get here there's extra room for my stuff since it's 2 cases per person and i will need a lot of space, altogether probably 1 case worth of stuff for them and 3-5 for me plus a carry-on for me, my Dad's computer bag, and likely a checked bag of bathroom stuff for my stepmom (you know how girls and women are!). Oh! and they will be spending about 3 whole days or so here before flying back with me, This will be my first time flying in 11 years and my first time away from home for so long, at least it's my Dad
