"Duggars Abroad" Recap

On tonight's episode of 19 Kids and Counting: World Tour, "Duggars Abroad"...
  • To prepare for their 20-day trip overseas, the Duggars pack 26 suitcases of clothing. Before leaving, they head to the store to stock up on some last-minute necessities. "Jim Bob's biggest phobia is running out of socks and underwear," explains Michelle.
  • With a crew of 26 (Jim Bob, Michelle, and the children, plus Josh, Anna, Mackynzie, Michael, Grandma, and cousin Amy), the family heads to the airport. (This is the first plane ride for both Josie and Michael.)
  • "The main thing is just getting all of our kids on the plane with passports in hand, and if we forget a few things, we'll pick them up along the way," says Jim Bob. 4,000 miles later, they arrive in Edinburgh, Scotland. 
  • "The first morning when we got up in Scotland, we were all tired and suffering from a lot of jet lag," declares Jessa. After a short night's sleep, the family heads out to sight-see. 
  • The first item on the agenda is the Royal Mile, where everyone is shocked to watch a street performer swallow a sword. Then it's off to Edinburgh Castle. Jim Bob describes the historical landmark as "absolutely beautiful."
  • At the Blairgowrie and Rattray Highland Games, the Duggar family--renamed the Mac'Duggar Clan--takes part in a community-wide tug-of-war contest. 
  • While at the Games, Jim Bob is seized by a group of Scottish men and forced to wear a kilt. He is not too thrilled about the idea, but when the men pull out their swords (all in fun), he complies. 
  • The Duggars hop on a ferry and travel to majestic Ireland, where the highlight is visiting the Causey Farm. The family receives a lesson on how to make traditional Irish Bread and then heads outside to experience a working farm. 
  • Amy and Joseph participate in a pig riding contest. While Joseph does pretty well, Amy has a harder go of it. "Amy was really brave to get on that huge pig," says Jinger. "She was like hanging on, and it was running her into the fence."
  • After watching Patch the sheep dog in action, the Duggars enjoy their homemade bread and then depart. 
  • Onward to England! Tune in next week to hear about their trip.

    No, but my heritage is a mixture of Scottish, Irish, Welsh and British. Due to my church's intense scottish heritage, I identify greatly with those roots. I hope to go over there someday before too long-maybe next summer. And...I loved plaid before it was the style. Lol. Can't have enough plaid skirts/kilts in my closet.

    I was so disappointed to hear Jim-Bob say that King James translated the King James Version of the Bible. King James ordered a new translation because of obvious errors in the other English translations. He gave specific instructions to the actual translators of which there were 47. This new translation was names for King James but not actually translated by him. I love the Duggars and know their faith tends to describe things in very literal terms but when there are written mandates to explain historical events, I wish Jim-Bob would get them straight. He should look faith filled, not ignorant to win more souls for God. God bless the Duggars!

    Just to let you know I really enjoy your blog. It is great for keeping me up to date with the Duggar Family. Needless to say I am a huge fan. I live in Ireland just 3 miles away from Causey Farm. I would have loved to have met them. I cant wait til it airs in Ireland we are only at Season 4.

    i live about 30mins from causey farm and I wish I had known they were here. They also visited Trim castle in my home town but I dont know if that was shown in the episode? I emailed the duggars before their trip suggesting they visit the castle if they go to Ireland...maybe they read my email.lol

    Very neat that you live so close to Causey Farm! Trim Castle wasn't shown in the episode, but that doesn't mean that the Duggars didn't go there. TLC only had a 60-minute window to document their visit to Scotland and Ireland.

    She really needs to stop making babies... if you want more kids adopt the ones who are looking for a safe home that need a safe warm bed.... when the reality show goes bust this season cause america is getting over the family are we looking at a new show called race for the welfare??

    I was really shocked when Jim Bob said King James translated the Bible too. He commissioned it, but he certainly did not translate it.

    I haven't seen the show, but I've watched several of the youtube clips on your family. I love the blessings that a large family offers. In fact my grandma had 18 kids of her own. Used to be the biggest family I knew until I heard of yours. Congratulations on the upcoming birth of yet another blessing from God.

    I wish I'd known they were here! I live in Carlisle, on the border of England and Scotland and would have LOVED to meet the family Duggar! Edinburgh is beautiful, we were there only 3 weeks ago!

    our local newspaper did an article about their trip and also printed a picture of them at the castle. I was so annoyed because I work around the corner from the castle and I just never thought they would actually be in my town because we dont live anywhere near where they got the ferry to from scotland.lol

    I have been to Edinburgh, the castle is spectacular, it is the first thing you see when approaching Edinburgh by train. It is built over a volcano, (not a mountain as Michelle stated), which to me was very interesting, I mean, when I think of volcanos , Scotland does not come to mind at all!
    The trip looks fantastic, I wish I was there!

    Why does Josie still drink from bottles and drink formula? Is that a standard preemie thing or are they just trying to get her extra nutrition because she is so small?

    After Jim Bob and Michelle announced their pregnancy to the family, Josh said that he and Anna also had an announcement to make. Maybe that's what you are talking about? That was just a joke on Josh's part. After he said that, he followed it up with "Anna's not pregnant."

    Josie does eat solid foods, but it isn't uncommon for a two-year old (preemie or full-term) to periodically drink from a bottle.

    I looked at the Causey Farm website and saw that they had both brown and white soda bread. They were exactly the same recipe except that the white soda bread uses white flour. Do you know which one the Duggars used?

    I lived in Ireland for a year, working as an au-pair in Carlow and Dublin and studying fiddle. It was a blast :) Such a lovely country!
