Duggar In Danger
- During a rehearsal at First Baptist Church Atlanta (Charles Stanley's church), Jason falls 12 feet into an orchestra pit. "We found Jason laying there, basically in a pool of blood," Jim Bob recounts.
- Jason is rushed to the hospital--Mama by his side--where it is determined that the 11-year-old Duggar has suffered two chipped teeth, a fractured jaw, and a sprained knee. He is stitched up and sent home (to the family bus) but takes weeks to fully recover.
- The following day, Jim Bob and Michelle speak at First Baptist, and the kids share music. Meanwhile, Jason chills in the greenroom in a wheelchair.
- After the service, the family heads to Lake Lanier for some water fun! Even Michelle, Anna, Mackynzie, and Josie join in.
- "A lot of people don't realize, Michelle is very athletic" explains Jim Bob, "which really goes great with having all those babies because it's kind of like running a marathon!"
- The day's activities include zip-lining, swimming, kayaking, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing.
- Michelle surprises everyone by being the only person who is successful at wakeboarding.
- "My mom put all of us guys to shame!" jokes Josh.
- At a Christian media event, the Duggars have the privilege of meeting Bethany Hamilton--pro surfer and shark attack survivor--and her brother, Noah.
- "Meeting the Duggars was really cool!" says Bethany. "I can't wait for them to come to Hawaii and surf...I think it would be fun to see them all in the water"
- "I want [our children] to meet and learn about people today," says Michelle. She desires for her kids to be able to recognize and adopt positive character qualities that they see in the lives of others.
- The entire Duggar clan has a "whale" of a time at the Georgia Aquarium. Some of the highlights include feeding belugas, petting African penguins, and watching divers clean the glass tunnels with cloth diapers. They also adopt a whale shark and name it Jim Bob, much to Daddy's excitement.
- Fun fact: Collectively, the Duggars weigh about as much as a baby whale shark, but they eat four times as much at each meal!
When I was eight I got bit be a dog.
ReplyDeleteThe episode "Duggar in Danger" was so scary!! It was terrible to see poor Jason all beat up like that!!
ReplyDeleteLast year I was skiing and I fell. My leg snapped around so bad that it caused my ski to fall off. In the end, I walked away with a twisted kneee.
ReplyDeleteWe're going to watch them as soon as we've finished school--can't wait. I'm glad Jason is fine now, that must have been scary.
ReplyDeleteBoth Bethany Hamilton and the Duggars were in Atlanta (we live an hour away) the week I was in Indiana, or I could have met them
! :(
I've had stitches in a toe once..never even a broken bone!
ReplyDeletewhen i was 11 i broke my front 2 teeth out completely, and almost bit my tongue off. then this past june 13,(2 days before Micheal James was born and 3 days before my 4 year wedding anniversary), i broke my arm in 2 places and ended up having surgery where the dr. put in 3 metal plates and 17 screws.
ReplyDeleteWow! Poor Jason! I've heard a broken jaw is the absolute worst when it comes to recovery! Praying for a speedy and full recovery. God Bless! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhen I was 12 my horse bolted in the middle of my riding lesson and bucked me off. I got a fractured skull and concussion and a very bruised shoulder and had to spend 2 nights in hospital.
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for Jason, but it could have been a lot worst. He is lucky that he is okay. I'm so glad he is okay now. When I was two, I was running back and forth in the hallway of my house and we have a stone wall right by my steps and I ran into it. It was the same height as I was. I had to get stitches in my head. I don't remember it, but my parents told me.
ReplyDeleteKimberly,
Jason fractured his jaw, he didn't break it. A fracture is not the same this as a break. A fracture is the same as a crack. I'm sure it was still painful, though.
This episode brought back some scary memories. My sister fell down an 11 foot high spillway (the other side of a dam)landing on concrete when she was 11 years old. I was 16 and knew to shout to her not to move at all. Then I screamed, "Dad, Lori fell over the wall" which got my dad and a lot of the rest of the campers running to help and someone called 911 because they knew anybody with that kind of fall would need medical help.
ReplyDeleteDad saw Lori not moving and was going to jump down himself (which would have probably caused him injuries) but another father stopped him and then pulled him down the hill to where the spillway wall was only knee high.
She went by ambulance to the ER and like Jason was really fortunate. She only had some soft tissue injuries and a broken toe. This was before cell phones so no updates from the hospital; we had to wait until they got back.
Poor Jason! I was in shock while watching it.My worst injury...... I recently badly sprained my ankle in the girl's bathroom at school.(The floor had just been mopped)I am now in a air cast.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Johannah's lip a few years back? That is more serious than a broken arm and who had the broken arm?
ReplyDeleteI had either 13 or 15 stitches in my neck when I was (I think) 3!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathryn!
ReplyDeleteThe broken arm was Josiah, at age seven. He fell while climbing a tree.
Glad to have you as a reader!

I have a rather unique story...when I was 12, I attended my friend's youth group during the October Pumpkin Fling event. Basically, as a stress release (and then talked about after in biblical relation etc), we flung some pumpkins (mostly ones that would not sell or be fit for consumption) off of a 150 foot crane. We finished the whole pumpkins a bit sooner than we thought we would, so we decided to go back and throw some of the bigger chunks. I was standing right near the entrance to the church in the 'safe' zone, when one of the other kids went up and FLUNG a pumpkin chunk, instead of just dropping it. I remember wondering why my friends standing next to me suddenly jumped away, and then I felt an incredible pain on the left side of my head and the ground and I connected with each other. Surprisingly, I was fine. I didn't even get checked out (although I should have). I guess I was very lucky!

ReplyDeleteWhen I was 14 (I'm now 16), I fell down the stairs while babysitting and fractured my skull. I passed out for a few seconds, and my brain (according to the CT scan) was swollen and bruised. I had to be on bedrest for 2 months, and it took me 3 months before I could look at a computer screen again.
ReplyDeleteI have three stories PS one of them is kinda embarrassing
ReplyDelete1. When I was 9 I had just learned how to ride a two wheel bike :P In my grandma's house there are a lot of cacti growing (this is when we lived in Mexico now we live in Canada) and I was doing a turn when I fell sideways right into one of the cacti. My mom had to pull them out of my arm one by one. Luckily non of them got infected because the exact same thing happened to my aunt but her arm got all infected
2. I was about 18 months old and I was a very agile baby. One time my mom was doing the laundry and I climbed out of my crib. I went into my parents' room and I started to climb the excersize bike when I fell on my head. I was knocked out and I had to get stirches on my head.
3. This is the most recent one. I was at my figure skating lesson and we were just learning how to do one of the hardest jumps-the axel. We had to wear helmets because we didn't have our usual coach, we had a 16 year old junior coach. I hit the jump in the air but when I landed I landed on the back of my blades and fell backwards. My ski helmet cracked in two and my glasses cut my noses and got all twisted. Since we had a junior coach she didn't notice and my parents weren't there but the next day I could move so I had to stay home from school for the whole week and had to wear a neck brace for 3 weeks. The back of my neck is still swollen and I have to go to the chiropractor for until september before the new season starts (this was when the season ended near the end of march so I have all the off season to recover)!!!!
I love this!
ReplyDeleteone wakeboarder
i was riding my horse ina comp, showjumping. i jumped over a jump and my horse skidded, fell and landed right on top of me he then pulled me through the jumps as my foot was still in the stirrup.
ReplyDeleteI h9 the brick wall jump and everything went black.
I suffered from a broken leg, 6 ribs and broken collar bone.
Also lots of bruises.
Jason has come so far from then! I cant believe he turned 15 today! He has changed so much and you can see his personality more! I cant wait to see what the future holds for me and Jason!
