"Duggar Dental Drama" Recap

On tonight's night's episode of "19 Kids and Counting," Duggar Dental Drama...
  • The day before Josh, Jessa, Jinger, and Joseph were scheduled to have their wisdom teeth extracted, Michelle guided the little ones in making homemade applesauce for the "patients." While peeling the apples on the apple peeler, the kids especially enjoyed eating the strands of leftover peel, known as "snakes" in the Duggar home.
  • Want to give the Duggars' applesauce recipe a try? Add a bit of water to a pot of peeled apples, and then cook them up on the stove. Next, add some honey, and place the applesauce in the fridge to cool.
  • While Jessa--the guinea pig--was having her surgery, the receptionist overheard Josh and Joseph say that the had both drank sweet tea three hours before their appointments.
  • When the doctor got word of the predicament, he told the boys that they would have to reschedule their surgeries. He kindly reminded them that they could have no food or drink (other than water) less than six hours before the procedure.
  • "I really wanted it to happen today," admitted Anna. "Josh has been procrastinating getting his wisdom teeth removed for three years"
  • And here's what John David had to say about his brothers' "mistake": "Josh and Joseph are much more...'well, we're supposed to do this, but we can probably get pretty close to the edge."
  • Both Jessa and Jinger obeyed the doctors' initial instructions, and their surgeries went well. Jinger is a lightweight, so it took the anesthesiologist only half as much medicine to put her out as it did to put Jessa out. Neither of the girls minded being stuck with an IV.
  • "Let me get your picture!" Those were Jim Bob's first words to Jinger after her procedure. She posed with her usual thumbs-up and as much of a smile as she could muster.
Are you squeamish when it comes to having needles?

  2. I am most definitely squeamish of needles and I'm a medical assistant hahaha. I can give the shots very well, but receiving them...nah, I'm a baby ;)

  4. Its funny, but needles and pain have never really bothered me much. Although I can't stand the sight of blood, that's what makes me squeamish.

  6. Lilly and Ellie,
Have been forgetting to say what a nice job you do in the recaps. Often you list something that I had forgotten or hadn't really noticed.
In last nights episode I was glad that they shewed the dentist explaining why they could only have water.

I don't have much problem with needles so long as I don't watch what they medical person is doing. I did once make the mistake of watching the bag when I was giving blood -- and came about as close to passing out as I ever have.

  8. I love this family. It is almost like watching a 'real live Walton' family on TV again.
So glad all went well for them with the dentist.
    Thanks for the wonderful blog.

  10. Needles are my enemy!! When I was a little kid the doctor and two nurses had to strap me down on a board to give me a routine shot. I'm alot better at getting shots now but they still scare me to death.

  11. My blood vessels are small they're deep and they roll, so I really hate getting my blood drawn. I deal with it but I'm a little nervous when someone new takes my blood or starts an IV. I have stage 4 breast cancer, and one of the greatest blessings is my metaport. A metaport is a metal portal attached to a vein so that my chemotherapy can be administered. It makes my life a lot easier because the needle literally snaps into the port like a lego. Every couple of years I have to have chemotherapy, and that really saves my veins. I recommend it to anyone having to go through chemotherapy.

  14. That's so silly. The boys should have just kept their mouths shut; wouldn't have been a problem. The rule is only there so the doc doesn't get thrown up on. Has nothing to do w/ the patient. :)

  15. I am not too squeamish when it comes to needles. Usually I just look away, and I'm fine. I also see a lot of needles at work (I'm a nurse). :)

  16. I am sure the doctor has his reasons why he doesn't want to be thrown up on Ginger!
