Anna Duggar's Brown Rice Baby Cereal
Step 1: While boiling a pot of water, crush rice kernels in blender on high for 2 minutes
Step 2: Mix rice with hot water
Step 3: Cook on low for 10 minutes
Step 4: Cool and serve to baby

ReplyDeleteI started making food for my 2nd baby. It was so easy and fast. I loved being able to make enough for a week with a lot of the foods for pennies on the dollar. I never thought to make her own rice though. Will remember that one if #3 comes along!
ReplyDeleteAnna is so sweet! My kids are all in their teens now, but I did attempt to make some foods for them using a mini-blender. My kids have loved veggies since they started eating solids...so that made it a lot easier! It is super that Anna is encouraging new moms to try to make their own baby foods!

ReplyDeleteI never made rice cereal, never saw the need to use it, I went straight to veggies and fruit. But I made my own baby food for my older girls. Just cooked the fruit or vegetables till very soft and the whizzed it up in my mini food processor and froze what I didn't need right then in ice cube trays. With my youngest, I skipped pureed foods all-together. We have pictures of her at 5 or 6 months (I begin solids when baby starts grabbing things out of my hand when I try to eat LOL. With my older girls that was close to 7 months, with my youngest, more around 5 months) chewing on a bagel (if you give it to them whole, they aren't likely to be able to get a bite off that is too big for them to swallow), and not much later, an absolutely adorable picture of her sucking on a piece of steamed broccoli. I (obviously) avoided true choking hazards (nuts, for example), and delayed things like dairy until she was old enough for her gut to handle them, but pretty much just fed he what we ate.
ReplyDeleteMy mom made all of our baby food except the meat when we were very little. I definitely plan on making the baby food for my kids if I have kids someday. My question is, what portion of rice to water? Like is it 1/4 cup rice, 1 cup water or what?

ReplyDeleteI love making my own baby food! I started making it for my first child(who is now 4) because of tummy problems he had, and I never expected it to be so easy. It has also saved my family so much in cost to do it this way too. If you can spare a couple of hours every couple of weeks, it is really easy to make up a bunch of baby food and freeze it. Good job to all you mommas out there making food for your babies, you are doing a great thing for your children by giving them good fresh ingredients :)! Thank you for sharing your recipe Anna, baby cereal is the only thing I haven't made yet, and this is great timing, I am about to start solids with my littlest...he is my third son :).

ReplyDeleteI was just wondering the other day about making my own baby cereal. I mill my own wheat for bread and didn't know how different from the store cereal it would be if I milled my own rice too. Thank you for sharing - I plan to make the next feeding home made!
ReplyDeleteyou can do the same with oatmeal. put rolled oats into blender. mix till powder and cook till softened.

ReplyDeleteRice is just as unhealthy for babies as it is for adults - even brown rice. It is way too high carb and causes a spike in blood sugar.
ReplyDeleteWith my 3rd and a little one I sat for I would put oats in the Bullet and crush them before cooking for oatmeal baby cereal. I didn't have the Baby Bullet, but the regular one was great for making baby food. I would puree most everything we ate for baby....after we made sure of no food allergies by testing single foods. I'll have to try the rice cereal with #4 that's on the way.
