Michelle: "Someone's expecting"

On this episode of 19 Kids and Counting, "Duggars Go Dinner"...
  • The Duggars had two other families over for a super-sized dinner party. Three families, nine adults, 34 kids. Wow! The other two families are the Bontragers (a family band) and the Swansons (Dwain and Lana and their five children).
  • When Jim Bob and Michelle said they had an announcement, everyone turned to look. When they said "someone's expecting," 43 jaws dropped. Michelle then assured her shocked family and friends that it wasn't them. Guess who? Jon Boyle, a member of the Duggars' film crew, and his wife are expecting their first child.
  • Josie is enjoying interacting with her 18 siblings. She is being weaned off oxygen, and Michelle is learning to let go and allow her older daughters to take their turns with Josie, a moment the girls have been waiting eagerly for. "It took me a little while to feel comfortable enough with letting someone else care fore her and feed her," says Michelle. "I wanted that responsibility on my shoulders; I didn't want my girls to have to bare that."
  • Michelle teaches her babies sign language, and Anna is helping Macknyzie learn to read with Monki See Monki Doo.

  1. So glad the person expecting wasn't Michelle or her daughter in law :)

  3. It was a relief to hear that it wasn't Michelle because I am concerned about her health. I have heard so many negative comments on the size of your family, but I for one, think it's wonderful. There is so much negativity going on at this time, and when I see your family and how you have raised them, it gives me great hope for the future. Your children are being raised as responsible, caring people who will contribute those qualities as they get older. As for not having enough time to spend with each child, I can understand your regret about that, but all you have to do is look into those beautiful faces to see that they KNOW they are loved! I also hear criticisms that the children are given too much responsibility - hogwash! What's wrong with kids having responsibility? It helps to make them more productive people, and watching how hard their parents work to keep everything together - and how happy they are to do it - shows them that they can have anything they want, as long as they're willing to work for it. I admire you and wish you every happiness!

  4. There is talk on Discovery about how rude not knowing how to pronounce your guests name correctly. I think they give us southerners a bad name.
The problem isn't responsibility Jessica but the strictly enforced gender roles. It just bugs me hearing child care isn't jim bob's jurisdiction. He brought these kids into the world. Quality time with parents is becoming a thing of the pasty.

  5. The Duggars have addressed the issue of one-on-one time with their kids. Since they homeschool, Jim Bob and Michelle spend more quality time with their kids than many other people are able to.

  6. I have to admit, as much as I think that God will give the Duggars the exact number of children that He wants them to have, I was a little concerned that Josie would not be given the attention she needs if her mommy were pregnant again so soon.

Wouldn't it be fun to be a guest in their home for a day? Even if they couldn't remember how to pronounce your last name (hopefully by the end of the visit they got it figured out!)!

  7. Do you have any more information on the "Monkey See, Monkey Do" reading program? Your link sent me to a bookstore, and I couldn't find anything specific about a program. Searches on Google were not very helpful either.

  8. I am not sure if that is the correct link for the program Anna is using. I have been looking for it but I wonder if she just called it "a monkey see, monkey do" program. It look a lot like the Teach Your Baby To Read program, except their cards slide not flip. or am I missing something on the link...hmm....

  9. I looked into it, and I am almost positive that this is the baby reading program that Anna has for Mackynzie. The description fits perfectly, and the monkey faces are identical. Here's the link:

    Enjoy! :)

  10. I agree, Sarah! It would be wonderful to be a guest in the Duggars' home for a day! It would be so neat to talk to Jim Bob and Michelle and the kids, face-to-face. I would still go, even if they couldn't remember my name, lol!

  11. actually roddma , some of us like the strictly enforced gender rules- we are bringing our children up the same way! we only have 7 tho!

  12. Tami, I agree. We enforce strict gender roles also. Being a woman is nothing to be ashamed of. There's no reason to try to hide that you're a woman. Same with my boys...they're going to be men someday, and I want them to act like it. There are scientific studies that prove there are differences in the way that men and women's brains work. There is a difference in men and women whether some people like it or not.

  13. I think that the Duggars are
a good example of determination and
faith. However, there is an incon
    sistency in leaving pregnancy up
to the Lord...then why use artificial intervention such as
    c sections and medications...
    They clearly have the financial
means to provide for their kids
    but that philosophy is unrealistic
for those who do not have real
    estate licenses and own
    commercial property...Not everyone
    can live debt free...Michelle has
done a great job with Josie but
she needs to think of her family
before she gambles on her life
and takes time away from Josie who
    needs added attention to overcome
    her developmental delays...if she
does not get that added attention
she will wind up with permanent
    problems...she needs the attention
    from the mother...not siblings
    because of the intense bond.

  15. I would love to spend a day at the Duggars, or at least spend an hour with the Duggars on TV Tuesday nights, Thursday if you watch them on Discovery Health rather than TLC. I have repeatedly written to TLC that '19 Kisds and Counting' needs to be an hour show rather than a half hour new show followed by a half hour rerun. They don't/can't cover what 21+ people are doing in 23 minutes. I don't see that TLC would need to film more, just use more of what they film already.
