- Johannah came down with the chickenpox and infected 11 of her siblings, just as Josie was scheduled to come home from the hospital. To keep their preemie well, Jim Bob and Michelle kept her in Little Rock for a few extra weeks.
- After the Duggars' TLC crew anxiously phoned their mothers to assure they had had the chickenpox, they entered the "chickenpox infested nest" and resumed normal filming.
- Jim Bob distributed medicine and took temperatures by the dozen. Even though taking care of sick kids is not his area of expertise, Jinger commends her dad for a job well done.
- Jim Bob and the kids passed through Little Rock and visited with Michelle and Josie through a glass door. Josie, born at 25 weeks gestation, has a weak immune system and will have to "live in a bubble," as Michelle puts it, for the first 2 years of her life.
- Josie went in for a checkup."She looks great, she's tracking me visually, she's interacting well," announced her neonatologist.
- Josie's doctor shared how he has been blessed by the Duggar family: "They've had to go through quiet a bit. They've always had a smile on their face, and they've always been very, very positive. They've uplifted me when I've been down about things."
- Grandpa Ruark, Michelle's father, passed away due to congestive heart failure. Garrett Floyde Ruark lived a full life and was blessed with 7 children, 31 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. While a NICU nurse watched Josie, all of the Duggars traveled to Ohio for the funeral.

How very sad about Michelle's "Daddy." I know she loved him very very much. What a hardship the last year has been. But if anyone can come through it, this family can.
ReplyDeleteWhere on Earth did Johannah manage to pick up chicken pox on her own?! lol I always knew she was a stinker!
I didn't see it after all, I'll try.
ReplyDeleteWhat a memory of Michelle's father who died. Jill was almost 3 months old when her maternal grandmother dies.
Jordyn-Grace was almost 2 months old when her paternal grandfather dies.
And now Josie was 6 months old when her maternal grandfather dies.
Jim Bob's mother Mary is the last survivor of the parenthood.
As I have been personally reminded in a very powerful way, God's timing is perfect. Thank God that His timing was for the kids to catch chickenpox BEFORE Josie came home!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, We have been following your family and have a grandchild with special needs and know what a blessing these little ones are, and challenging life can be. I am concerned though, watching the show when you prepared Josie for her doctors appointment, putting the infant carrier onto a umbrella stroller, which it is not made to do, with Josie in it. You then attached all the medical equipment that is attached to Josie onto the stroller and the diaper bag. There is a weight limit to the stroller also. Then you carried Josie in the stroller down the stairs, three flights, and not holding onto a railing. That is not safe either, and you doing this all on tv. My heart raced. After all you have been through I just pray that you will heed better judgement. Our prayers are with you and the family.
ReplyDeleteIt does not seem as if the Duggar kids have had the chicken pox vaccination. Why not?
ReplyDeleteSince 1995, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) have all recommended that children receive this vaccine.
I have heard that there are some pretty nasty things as fillers in vacines. They don't always tell you what is all in it. It is better to get the diease and let your body build up anti-bodys naturally, then you will be immune to it!
ReplyDeleteNot everyone gets the chicken pox vaccine. I know that many feel as I do and think that it is better to get the appropriate disease at the appropriate age. Getting chicken pox as a child is a minor inconvenience and provides a lifetime (for most) immunity. The vaccine is not nearly as effective and requires booster shots.
ReplyDeleteThe chicken pox vaccine is made fro m human diploid cells from aborted fetuses. If that's not enough reason to refuse it read on.
ReplyDeleteThe varicella zoster vaccine does not confer life long immunity (as well as many other vaccines). Therefore an adult who received the vaccine as a child can still get chicken pox when the immunity is gone, with the potential for much more serious sequalae than if the virus is contracted in childhood. Having chicken pox as a child confers lifelong immunity. We are now beginning to see the effects of multiple vaccinations on the health of now adults. Various autoimmune diseases, fibromyalgia, etc.... See Dr. Mayer Eisenstein's book on his 'Home First' website.
