Baby Forsyth is Here!

 Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth

Joy-Anna Duggar and Austin Forsyth have officially entered parenthood. Their bouncing baby boy was born Friday. Following in the footsteps of some of his Seewald and Dillard cousins, he weighed in at 10 lbs, 3 oz and measured 22 inches long.

People Magazine has the exclusive story and photos, although the couple has yet to share details of the birth.

We know you all are wondering what Joy and Austin named their little guy. They chose Gideon Martyn Forsyth. (Martyn is Austin's middle name.) Be sure to check out the People article. We will share more information as we are able.

    1. I'm not sure. Perhaps they were busy with People Magazine and that caused the delay in the announcement on the blog.

    2. Probably kept it a secret so it could be announced right before the start of the new season, it will drum up more interest.

    3. She probably wasn’t ready for pictures the day that she had him. It gave her a day or two to recover before putting out pictures since people would want to see him when they found out.

    5. “All boys now... no girls”. Honestly,, what does that even mean? Did you forget about Mackynzie and Meredith? SMH.

    6. It would be nice if just once, the PARENTS announced their child's arrival by themselves, and didn't sell it to a magazine. Babies shouldn't come with a paycheck attached for selling their exclusive rights.

    12. If some magazine offered me over $50,000 to hold on to a baby announcement (to people I dont even know) for a few days, yep, I would wait a whole 2 days too! Seriously people, in a few years the Duggar’s show will be a thing of the past and I am sure they are using the money for important things like homes and savings. Its too easy to judge. Let them make their own decisions as adults without scrutinizing every single move.

    1. I wonder too. I was way bigger than her with my five children but my biggest was 7 lbs .

    2. From what I’ve gathered they don’t seem to get much prenatal care aside from the ultrasound to find out the sex and Jill hearing the heart beat with a Doppler. That could mean they don’t have a professional monitoring them. This could result in gestational diabetes, which makes babies big at birth

      Delete
    3. They eat really healthy and exercise before, during and after pregnancy.

      Delete
    4. Some families tend to have large babies. I have 6 adult childen. The twins were the lightest at 7 1/2 lbs each. I carried them to 40 weeks.

      Delete
    5. I had gestational diabetes and professional care. I had a big boy. 10 lbs 11 ounces.

      Delete
    6. Probably undiagnosed gestational diabetes it’s very easy to miss even with close monitoring. My first I passed all tests and supposedly didn’t have it -born at nearly 9lbs. Baby 1 has all symptoms of a GD baby and had low blood sugars for first 48hrs. Second diagnosed in 2nd trimester strict diet and blood sugar monitoring was closer to 7lbs..... my mum had huge babies and was never once diagnosed! I think unless they test at right stage it is easily missed!

      Delete
    7. It doesn't have to be gestational diabetes. My daughter had a baby in July. The baby was a big baby she didn't have gestational diabetes.

      Delete
    8. Big babies run in my family too- my 9-lb baby was considered small next to several of her cousins born between 9.5 and almost 11 lbs. We all have proper prenatal care and healthy pregnancies. We just have big babies, although our mom only had 7-lb babies. Doesn't mean lack of medical care.
      Genetics can work that way.

      Delete
    9. I think it's because the midwives they are using let them go too long. They miscalculate the due date. No one should ever try to have a baby that big at home. The hospital is the safest for both momma and baby. I understand they try to adhere to strict teaching and the Bible as much as possible, but don't you think Mary would have gone to the hospital too if they had had one back 2000 years ago?

      Delete
    10. So she has a big baby and your talking gestational diabetes. For Pete's sake, maybe she just had a big healthy baby. Many people do!

      Delete
    11. They are all related and big babies tend to run hereditary.

      Delete
    12. THANK YOU 6:53!!

      Delete
    13. 5:31, you are incorrect on so many things. #1; Your due date is based on the first day of your last period, so it shouldn't be that hard to calculate if you have a regular cycle. #2; My friend had a baby bigger than that at home in her tub this past summer, and both she and him were fine. #3; A hospital is not "safer" than homebirths, if you look at birthing statistics of America, and countries that do almost all home births, there are WAY less deaths in other countries. And #4; You have no clue what Marry would have chosen! She may have wanted a home birth, or she may have gone to a hospital, that would have been her choice, and she should have been able to make it without being judged.

    14. They are not always eating wright in this family. That makes big baby's and problems with delivery.

      Delete
    15. Anon11:30?? What?? This family does not eat really healthy. In fact they are known, and have shown, just how unhealthy they eat. The only couple known to exercise some are Ben and Jessa.

      Delete
    16. Home births are better for the mother and hospital borths for the baby (normally). That said, my mom had four babies at home three of which were over ten pounds.

      Delete
    17. this gestational diabetes doesn,t always happen within some family,s ending up having 8 to 15 lbs baby thats has height of 20 to 23 inch. its an healthly life style of good food good excurise. those few family,s who may have daibetic person and they are not might could have this gestational diabete issue during the pregnancy need tobe watched by a doctor and not w/ a midwife

    3. I didn't see that rumor in the press.

  34. I have a feeling it was a C-section. His head is round like a C-section baby, not flattened or forceps marked like a 10 lb. baby born the usual way. There's probably more to the story than what has been announced.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Why does there have to be more to this story than announced ? Even if joy did give birth via C section, does it matter ? So long as both baby & mum come out of things fit & well that's the only objective anyone should be concerned about. Not all 10lb babies have "flattened" heads or forceps marks, my daughter was that weight & her head shape was fine no forceps used at all, & I have delivered quite a few 10lb + babies in my 30 years as a regestered nurse/midwife & a great deal of them have had nicely shaped heads. I do hope there isn't endless stories about birth mysteries like there was with Jill, it really isn't anyone's business but theirs & why should she have to go into detail to the world about what her delivery was like. I don't know what pictures your looking at but in the UK there is only one pic on the people magazine site of joy & Austin sitting in front of their kitchen worktop with joy holding the baby & I couldn't see that much of him to say what his head looked like or if he had forceps marks on one side of his cheek or not. I personally hope it was a hospital birth as it was her first & if all was well then maybe next time have a home delivery. Other than that I think we should just leave them to enjoy their new son & say congratulations.

      Delete
    2. My little brother was really big, but still had a very round head🤷🏽‍♀️

      Delete
    3. Fuzzyferet: I'm in the UK also and when the story broke there were two pictures, the one you are referring to and one of the baby in a clear hospital cot which has now been taken down for whatever reason. There is also a clip on the counting on site where Joy says she has a birthing pool, and is setting up beds for the people who will be coming to help, so it sounds like she was planning a home birth and it didn't go to plan. While I know it isn't anyone elses business, fans are hanging on for news and this is just teasing them and stringing them along to keep them watching the show, its all very calculated imo.

      Delete
    4. The baby was in some sort of hospital looking isolette in one of the pictures, so it may have been C-section. I think what these girls do with their pregnancies matters, because other girls in their group look to them as role models. So far the Duggar girls have had some very scary home birth stories to tell. I wouldn't want another girl thinking that she could give birth at home because Anna, Jill, Jessa, and Joy all tried it. There's no special mom prize given for home deliveries, and if a mom-to-be wants to go to the hospital for all their labor and delivery, they shouldn't be made to feel bad because of what others did.

      Delete
    5. Awe they must have took that picture down before I saw it, thank you for telling me that,I was wondering what people were talking about. I still think it's very personal to want to know details of someone's birth experience but I suppose that's what happens when your in the public eye. I have a good friend who has a very famous brother & the whole family get sick of press intrusion & I laugh when I read things in the press that I know are totally untrue about him. I'm glad I live a normal life & can keep things I want to keep private private. I do know what you mean though things are drip fed to the public & maybe shouldnt be. I havnt seen the video yet but I'm going to look now. I cannot believe anyone would have encouraged her to give birth to a obviously large baby at home, as I'm sure your aware here in the uk she would never find a midwife to deliver her at home as a first time mum having a large baby, I know I wouldn't have delivered her myself as too many things can go wrong, however in the states they seem to have these "midwives" without proper degree qualifications who seem happy to take on these deliveries at home.

      Delete
    6. 1:58, agreed, the they shouldn't be made to feel bad if they choose to do an at home delivery either.

      Delete
    7. I think people always harp on about csections with the duggars because they love to see them defeated. Ha ha ha poor jill/jessa/Joy made a stupid mistake and failed. I weep at the poor show of support from mothers to mothers! Women should champion one another!
Home birth isn't dangerous. In the UK it is making a big come back, even for first pregnancies it is encouraged if you are low risk. I tried to have to my fifth baby at home, she was 10lb 5oz and even though she did end up being born in hospital because of a stalled labour, she was born vaginally with no intervention or drugs.
On the other hand, my youngest was a c section and he still had to be extracted with forceps because he was stuck in the sciatic pocket.

      Delete
    8. Anon at 4:39AM: While I agree that some who harp on Duggars who get c-sections "love to see them defeated" because it suits their agenda, and again I wonder why they even follow them if they have so much contempt for them...

I also know of women who are so cynical about the OB "industry" that they actually want "unassisted birth". Not just birth at home, but to do so with no trained helper at all, and no prenatal care. Would you still "champion" such a woman?

I agree that "Home birth isn't dangerous" - for those who are low risk to begin with. While some home birth skeptics are just about tearing down anything Duggar, some are also sincerely concerned about the babies involved.

    9. 10:54,I know a woman who did that, and she and her baby were perfectly fine.

  51. Whenever I see or think of Joy, I'm JOYfully reminded, of some very sweet, fun and special memories with The Duggar and Bates families. While staying at our families RV park, in rolls the busses of these two, awesome families! My daughter, her two little girls and I were staying in one of the cabins, just a few spots down from them. Oldest granddaughter was five at the time and always full of energy, as well as a very loving, giving, generously friendly little girl. We had a bunch of those glow bracelets and my Josie insisted we share them with The Duggar and Bates children...so of course, we did just that! Joy was soooo much fun!! She introduced us to every single person in their group, including Grandma Duggar, who was busy in the laundromat. The RV park was 'aglow' in many ways that evening...THANK YOU, Joy...for helping to create a once in a lifetime memory!! My Josie still talks about this today. I know you and Austin will create so many wonderful memories with precious Gideon and all children to come. Sending sooo much love...CONGRATULATIONS!!! :)

  59. I had my kids when I was 30,32,36,38. The first 2 pregnancies I was skinnier and younger and did not have GDM (gestational diabetes mellitus). The last two pregnancies I was heavier and over 35 and did have GDM. I doubt the Duggar girls have GDM at their ages and weights. It is more likely to have it with the age and weight factor than without. Although it’s possible to have GDM young and skinny, it is more unlikely unless there is a family history of diabetes (and there definitely is in my family). I never tested positive at the 24 week test but only at the repeat test at 28 weeks each time. So I was only affected by it from 7 months on. My babies weighed only 5.15, 6.1, 6.9, 6.10. Very little babies runs in my family. And big babies run in other families. Diet was key for me to keep the babies small even with GDM. Count those carbs at every meal and you and baby will be healthy

  60. After reading all these comments, I am coming to the conclusion that it appears that all their life events are orchestrated by TLC and its timing for best ratings for this show. I can't imagine living my life having to tell a media conglomerate all the details and having it all recorded for the world to see. But, the Duggar children have had this happen in their lives for many years so perhaps it is normal to them? I also can't imagine the pay check that comes with this lifestyle. So, I guess it's a win for them, financially.

  61. Congrats to Joy Anna and Austin. Regarding the size of the baby; I once met a very smart woman who is a doctor, very conscientious, and she had a baby Gideon's size as well. AFIAK the mother did everything right and there was no GDM, but the baby was still very big. She did go to a hospital for the birth, but did not have a C-section.

Since Gideon seems very happy and healthy, why are people still obsessed on what Joy did wrong to "make the baby that big" or that she must have had GDM and not known it because she didn't get the right care; really?

I know many who follow this blog don't agree with the Duggars beliefs or lifestyles at all. But this is what they sincerely believe, and I am disturbed by the insinuations that Joy was being somehow irresponsible.

Indeed, I get the feeling many of the critics think, deep down, that she was irresponsible for having the baby in the first place.

  62. Congrats! Thanks for sharing a pic of him.
My first was 8 Ibs 12 oz and was a boy.
I think boys are normally a little bit bigger than girls. My second son was smaller but he was born early and my girl was born on time but 7 Ibs .

  63. I thought for sure Joy would have a girl. I love to try to guess what somebody might have, but it's amazing how many times I've been wrong - lol.
